Which Online Dealer/Store would you recommend for buying a Serger?

There are many options such as Amazon.com, Allbrands, SewingMachinePlus, Sears.com, Walmart.com, and such-but, which is the easiest to deal with if you need to return your Serger? I don't know if I should get a Brother 1034D or a Juki 654DE. (I do want something that can handle Fleece, Denim, Home Dec Fabrics, or Canvas occasionally without breaking down).

I no longer recommend Allbrands and would prefer to do business with SewingMachinePlus personally. Go for the Juki!

I can only say that I ordered my 654DE from Ken's Sewing and Vacuum. I did not need to return it and had a very positive experience. One positive for me is that any time I want instruction or help with the machine (as long as I own it), I can go there if I want to since it is also a store-front. It's about a three-hour drive, which is not convenient, but not impossible either. I really like this machine, by the way.

I have bought online from both Allbrands and Sewingmachineplus. I must say that I trust both to resolve an issue if there is one. I have actually had phone calls from both on my orders when necessary so when I am purchasing I go with the one with the lowest price on the item I am looking for.

I've bought two sewing machines, a serger, a steam press, a really good ironing board and misc feet etc from

The one time they made a mistake they fixed the problem and were very apologetic. Usually pretty good prices especially if you go the free shipping route and they don't take parts out of boxes and try to sell them as extras. Got my singer 5 thread from them they even included their own threading manual with photos (easy once you try it...the first time I got the lower looper and the cover looper confused and it took a few minutes puzzling to figure out why it didn't work then all was well I'd like to get another one but then $500 could get me a nice lot of silk.

I also think SewVacDirect is the best of all internet companies. They are always polite and ae there if you have a question They are very willing to try to help. If something goes wrong, they will fix it, no probems at all. Good luck with your purchase.

I have purchased three sewing machines and many many accessories from SewVacDirect, as well as one custom ordered Sew Steady table. All orders went well. Also, they are great on the phone, and reply to emails in a timely fashion. One of the machines was misplaced by UPS - that is - it was put on the wrong train with a lot of other items bound for the East coast and went astray. SVD tracked that down for me from their end and informed me where it was and when it would arrive.They are good people, and my favorite place for online sewing shopping if they have what I am looking for.

I have also purchased a machine from SewinginUSA and had a very nice experience - they have online chat that works, and are very helpful, and the machine arrived very quickly.

I have ordered from Ken's and although things usually work out, I have had to call a few times to get things straight. I haven't ordered a machine from them.

All these vendors are real stores in their respective locations and you can check them out through the Better Business Bureau online.

Amazon has the Juki 654DE for $499, and a number of other sergers as well. I know they have no special sewing knowledge, but I did have to return a camera I ordered from them the other day, that had stopped working, and the return couldn't have been easier. They even paid for the return shipping, since the camera broke.
