Sew, what's the deal? Recently when new patterns come out, it seems to take several weeks before they hit JoAnns. I like the shaping on Butterick 5616 and the length of A, and I have this lovely sheer lavendar that wants to be that jacket. Of course, Butterick is on sale this week-end & no new patterns are in the drawer. Guess I just have to be patient and wait for the next sale. Boo!!!!

That sucks!! The last time JA had a pattern sale on Buttericks they didn't have the new either down here. I wanted to go today but I know better. I have to wait on Hancocks. Feb. 10-14 for Buttericks and Simplicity. Even so I think I will call before I drive 40 mins.

i dont think I will ever shop at joanns again. I received a gift card for Xmas from Joanns. Long story short it couldnt be activated since they had alot of computer errors with the cards during the holidays. After many many phone calls, and many many emails I still havent been able to use it :(

forget pattern shopping, im staying with Hancocks.

Eleanor.. this isn't the first time I have heard of this.. seems not to be a local problem. Someone mentioned on a thread a while back that they hold the new patterns back when they are planning a 99 cent sale.. Perhaps they are thinking that will allow them to sell a few at full price to those of us who want to sew the newest patterns as soon as they hit the shelves.
I do know sometimes they store will have a new shipment in the back.. or forthcoming the next day or so after the sale starts.. so sometimes it helps to ask about specific patterns.
Other than that, I can only guess we see these patterns on net sites long before they really hit the stores...

Same thing happened to me yesterday. It would be remarkable if they even took them out of the boxes within several weeks, I think. More like several months.

Joann's has been sold quite recently. We may be seeing reflections of the transaction.

So glad you posted this!!! I got burned trying to get 5616 as well. The Butterick book of patterns was for Fall-Holidays 2010!!! HELLO JOANN----ARE YOU STILL CONSIDERING VALENTINES DAY---THE HOLIDAYS??? Sheesh! Talk about the 12 days of Christmas and beyond. I was not a happy camper and was uttering the same words you have written.

I said something to the girl that checked me out---2 coloring books my kids wangled me out of---and her curt reply was that they held the new patterns till ALL THE STORES GOT THEM AT ONCE! I told her the spring patterns were out and all over the net.

What burns me is if you look at the price on a lot of their popular fabric, it will normally be 20-30% higher than Hancock's to begin with. And then they put it on sale---big wooo! They jack the price of their cutting blades as well.

I am very careful what I buy at JA, and would much rather shop at Hancocks. They are not always the best, but they are trying. When I was there to get my McCalls patterns this weekend, all the personnel were telling everyone that they had just gotten Burda patterns. They were very proud, and this does show as a company they are really trying to appease the garment sewer, as well as the quilter, and "fleece no-sew, low-sew maniacs".

I will be at Hancocks later this month to pick up B5616 bc I have some raw silk in my stash that is calling its name.

My JoAnn's didn't even have a Butterick book out at all, let alone the new one. I wish we still had a Hancock's - it closed 5 years ago or so. JoAnn's is the only game in town for Butterick now.

I'm no big fan of JoAnns, but I would trade my local Hancocks for a JA's. As far as patterns go, my local H's doesn't seem to have much of anything that's even current, let alone the newest ones. They also don't have their drawers labeled properly, so that could be why I can't find anything.

As far as fabrics go, I can't find anything at either place that I like anymore. Just as well, I have far to much as it is anyway.

That's interesting. It's usually the opposite for me. Hancock's usually NEVER has newly released patterns when there is a sale. And my Jo-Ann's stock is overflowing.
