Just saw the headline that y'all had another earthquake very close to Christchurch. Please check in as you are able and let us know you're okay.

CNN story on NZ earthquake

I just heard about it now. I hope everyone's okay too. Sounds like this one did a lot of damage - and they have sure had more than their share. I told DH one of the ladies on PR (lareine) lived in the area and many of our other members are in NZ. It makes you more nervous when you *know* the people being struck by a tragedy, even if it's only through online sharing and chatting. We are kind of like the pen-pals of the old days and I feel a closeness to the people I interact with here.

It is likely the NZ'ers will check in on the Sewing Down Under thread. Hopefully everyone is ok, but there is no power to 70% of city at the moment so may be a while until they can. Cell networks and phonelines are overloaded which compounds things.
I was very relieved to manage to get hold of DH and find out he was ok. Tho somewhat shaken. Not so sure about this idea of moving up there now!

I'm a bit anxious too, I hope all our PR members and their friends and family are OK.

70% of the country is a pretty big hit. In the last two years I don't think any part of the the world has been spared a disaster. I hope everyone is safe.

My hope is to sew to the very end. They'll find my head slumped over my precious Kenmore 19606 and have to pry the seam ripper from my cold, dead hands.

It could be a while before we hear from those in the area...praying that they have what they need right now.

I don't have Christchurch friends or family...hard to know what to say to fellow Kiwi expats who do, though. Media reports here are so focused on Japanese caught up in the quake that you would never know that anybody NOT Japanese happened to live in Christchurch...
