Hi I am new to Pattern review and I am loving it.

I am looking for a pant pattern with a back zipper or side. ( would love a back one) Would like it to ride about an inch below the waist and hopefully without a waist band. I would like it to be a straight leg, but I could adjust that. No pocket or belt hoop needed. In ready to wear I run about a size 6. I hope this is the way to do this. If ther is a way to search for patterns, please let me know. I have spent hours looking through all the patterns for sale and have found a couple of side zip pants. These will work if I cant't find the back zip. Thank you in advance for your help. Donna

You can put the zipper pretty much wherever you want in a pair of pants. Try to find a pattern with the waist and the leg shape you want. If you are looking for a pattern without a waist then you will probably be dealing with facings at the waist to finish it off. Just leave the facing open where you put your zipper (side or back) and then sew the facing in. Hope that helps!

Look in the "suits/coordinates" categories of the various pattern companies. The pants included are usually pretty basic with straight legs and no waistband, just the features you are looking for. As an example the first one in the list at the Vogue website is this one. I haven't tried this pattern or seen the actual pants pattern pieces so I can't say anything about how it might sew up. In my experience though, the typical wardrobe pattern pants drafts are at times quite good. I suspect it is because they use some basic tired and true draft and don't mess with it to make it "new"!

I've done V2813 which has a back zipper, no waist, but is wide-leg, high-waisted and one-seam.

BTW, I'm decluttering and won't use it again, so I you want my (uncut) copy in size 12-14-16, I'd be glad to send it your way :)

I hope you'll succeed with your pants. When they are done, just --ahem-- plan for a little more lead time when nature calls. :)
