Hello,

Does anyone have good experience with lutein to protect against AMD? A relative of mine is diagnosed with AMD. The doctor said there is no cure for that, but lutein supplement may prevent the symptoms from worsening...

There are so many brand names and and it's hard to choose the best product that works. Could your please share your experience, links, brand names, etc?

Thanks a million!

The doctor prescribed Kelior for me as a preventative measure for macular degeneration (my mother had this). It contains, reading off the packet Omega 3, Lutein, Zéaxanthine, Vitamins C and E, Zinc. Here this is not re-imbursed by the social security, but 60 capsules cost around 22 euros - so not too expensive.

What are some of the brand names? I personally have several companies in mind that are consistently high quality. (If you name some of them, I'll PM you with the ones I'd pick.)

I think the listing of ingredients that petro gave is generally a good one, if you can find something similar.

In case its a help for comparison here are some more things that are written on the packet of the ones I was prescribed - rough translations.
Luteine is natural lutein, which can be assimilated directly

amounts per capsule lutein 3mg, zeaxanthine 0.5mg, fish oil 300mg of which DHA 129mg; vitamin C 125 mg Vitamin E 30mg natural origin, Zinc 6.25 mg.

I read somewhere that in comparing supplements its important to read how much of the active ingredient is in the tablet or capsule, so as to get a true comparison.
