I heard unofficially today that I've been accepted into a grad program I applied to a few months ago. I've been hoping for this to work out for a long, LONG time.

I'm in my late 50's and have decided that this time 'round I'm not going to dress in jeans every day like a typical grad student. I've been through fire and water and many other things to get to this moment of my life, so I want my look to reflect my new-found sense of purpose and self-respect. So, guess what one of the first things I started thinking about was after I got the news... I need to start sewing a wardrobe!

I have five months, which in my case (slooooow) should give me enough time to pull together at least five items, lol.

Are there any others out there who haven't sewn for quite a while but now have something special to start sewing for?

P.S. Hallelujah!!

Firstly, CONGRATS on the new path! I'm prepping up for the application process for graduate school as well so I'm sure this is such a happy time for you!

Secondly, DH and I are moving to the east coast and after I settle in I'll be getting back to the machines to create a more put together wardrobe.

What a fun journey to have, isn't it?

Thanks so much, both of you!

Well, as my brother put it after he shrieked with joy and congratulations, "You have earned yourself a lot of hard work." ........Oooh, yeah. But -- satisfying hard work.

Minggiddylooloo, that's exciting -- two big life changes coming up for you. I'll bet you're getting really psyched.

Congratulations!! I remember that the first time I was in school, I wore pajamas and hoodies everyday (100 yards from dorm to classroom). Then I quit for a couple years, moved, and went back - the second time round I was there with purpose and put more effort into both my appearance and my schoolwork

Nothing like 'somewhere to go' + a deadline to motivate you

Joan,

Congratulations! It is wonderful to finally get something you have wanted for so long.

I cannot think of a better reason to start sewing again.

Thanks, everyone! I woke up this morning and without even really thinking about it reached for a casual skirt instead of my tired old jeans. So, it's apparently already sinking in, lol.

I'm thinking the first thing I'll make is some nice pants -- I haven't made myself pants for maybe a year. I'll need a lot of things... my list is long. If only I could clone myself and sit there sewing while the other me got some work done.

Wow, that's fantastic! I'll be cheering you on, too! In my experience older students are often more focused and motivated.
