Hello everyone,

I will be managing this contest, which begins in just over 2 weeks.

Please find below the official contest rules, so that you may begin planning your entries.

If you have any questions, please feel free to direct them to me. I check PR at least daily, and will try to help as much as I can.

Imaan in Sydney

Knock It Off! contest

May 1 through 31, 2011

This contest is to create a garment inspired by one that you have seen. The inspiration item can be from a Ready-To-Wear line, from the runway, or any other garment you have seen worn or pictured.

The garment must clearly be inspired by the original piece. It does not have to be, but can be, an exact copy. List changes you have made and what features you have kept.

Review requirements: A picture of the inspiration piece and your finished garment must both be included; they can be put into the same picture. It is highly recommended that you wear the garment and pose in the same fashion as your inspiration item is pictured.

There will be a 1st place winner determined by Pattern Review member vote, and second winner randomly drawn from all qualified entries.

Items to consider when voting:

- Does the garment resemble the inspiration piece in some clear way?

- Do the changes made by the entrant work (both fabric selection and style modifications)?

- Taking into consideration the stated skill level of the entrant, is it well constructed and well fitted?

- Is the review clear and well documented?

*Rules that apply to all contests:

1. All reviews must be entered for submission by 11:59 PM Eastern Time on the last day of the contest. Contest dates will be listed for each contest.

2. Unless otherwise stated in the rules, patterns may be drafted, tweaked, and muslined before the contest date, but fabric for the pieces entered may not be laid out or cut till the start date of the contest. Fabric may be pretreated before the contest date.

3. Items intended for sale, or for which you were or will be paid to make, do not qualify for any contest, but items made for charity are welcome!

4. Unless otherwise stated in the rules, all reviews written for a contest entry must include a picture of the entry.

* Contest Eligibility

1. Any member of Pattern Review, either paying (FoPR) or non-paying, who's been a registered member on the site for 90 days prior to the start of a contest is eligible to enter.

2. Any member of Pattern Review, either paying (FoPR) or non-paying, who's been a registered member on the site for 90 days prior to the end of a contest is eligible to vote in a contest.

3. Any member who's won 1st place in a contest on Pattern Review ended in the previous 4 months is ineligible to win another contest (for that 4 month period).

Prizes:
Sponsored by Style Arc Patterns

First Prize: $100 Gift Certificate

Random Entry Prize: $75 Gift Certificate.

I've decided to copy this blouse from Modcloth. I really like how the back looks. I'm starting with this McCall's pattern. I just have to draft a peter pan collar for it.

I love this idea. I may actually enter something into this contest this year. I haven't decided yet what it will be -- possibly a skirt or something else relatively simple, but with interesting details of some kind.

P.S. I was about to say "I have no hope of winning or anything..." but I just checked out the Style Arc website and now I'm keen to enter even just to qualify for the random prize!

I keep finding new things I want to copy! I probably won't decide until right when I need to start sewing.

I love the rivets on this.
Burberry Dress
I don't think I could copy it exactly, just get the idea of it. I have some lightweight white denim I might use. I was thinking maybe using this pattern. But I'm not sure about the waistband and how it would look with the rivets.
Vogue 8633
I think I have an old OOP Vogue dress pattern with a mandarin collar. I'll have to look.

I found this skirt too that I absolutely love!
Reed Krakoff
My only qualm right now is it's not very summery. I love how the silk organza peeks out from the leather. I want to sew more summer items. This pattern would work I think.
Burda 2-2010-121.

I do way too much snoop shopping online. I'm going to have a heck of a time deciding.

OK, I'm in. I'm not aiming for brilliance here, just one good wardrobe item inspired by something classy. I.e. inspired by something I couldn't afford to actually buy but that other people will think I bought.

Question: There's just one entry per person, right? Since I'm planning to keep it simple, it just occurred to me that my daughter might also want a RTW-knock-off garment.

I may not even get one garment finished, who knows... but I thought I'd ask now, just to check.

Joan, as far as I know, all contests allow multiple entries. You should just be aware that during voting, you'll be competing with yourself. :)

I want to join in this contest, but with my DD's birthday next month I have a lot of sewing to do for her.

If I do find time, I'll be attempting These cargo pants.
I know I'll need to make at least one muslin. And I've never made "real" pants before, just the PJ variety. So we'll just have to see how it goes. I hope I have time! :)

That's fine. Nothing to be nervous about there.

OMG, that blouse is SOOOOO cute!
If you don't know how to already, Gertie has a video tutorial series on how to draft that peter pan collar you want.
It starts Here
Part 2 & 3 are on 2/28/10, and 3/9/10, if they don't come up automatically.
NAYY, just love her blog, too.
