Date: 4/22/11 8:59 PM Anyone interested in a summer wardrobe sew along? I haven't decided exactly what I'm making, but it gets really HOT here in the summer. I'm thinking a couple pairs of shorts, full skirt, summery tops, light weight cardi/overblouse, or jacket and maybe even a bathing suit. I work as a teacher, but our dress code is fairly casual. I need clothes for work and weekends. Anyone want to play? ------ blog: encue.blogspot.com

Date: 4/22/11 10:57 PM Count me in. I so need summer clothes. The next thing I need is a plan, however right now the heat is still coming on and it is cold and raining so hard to think about summer clothes.
Oh and I have to make a dress for my son's wedding in June. Kinda looking forward to making a dress. I have the pattern and the fabric. It has been a very long time since I made a dress and am feeling a bit intimidated. None the less I will have to make a move here real soon on that dress if I plan to wear it to the wedding. ------ Ada

Date: 4/23/11 1:18 AM I've been buying summer fabrics and patterns. I better join so I can start making the investment worthwhile. Don't want DH to think I'm just collection the stuff. ------ Visit my blog at http://sewingsaga.blogspot.com

Date: 4/23/11 7:39 AM Great idea for a sew-along. Desperate for summer clothes, I commenced a sewing rampage about four weeks ago and am on garment number 7 which is the Jalie sweetheart top. I'm running low on stash though, so I need to go shopping! ------ Carolyn

Date: 4/23/11 10:14 AM Well, I'm definitely not running low on stash ! I just don't know how many fabrics I have that say "summer" and still go together. I don't think I need to worry about making everything work together since I have enough other pieces in my wardrobe that I think everything will at least go with something! I've been on the hunt for a good shorts pattern, but haven't found one yet this year. I have an older (OOP) new look that I like, but I think there might be pieces missing. I also need to comb through my BWOF patterns. Of course, I could (and may) just shorten a pants pattern. I like shorts that go right to or just above the knee. If they are made out of nice enough fabric, they can also work for work for me - as in "city shorts". I just finished a dress for Easter that I'll be able to wear throughout the summer. Next I'm making a top for DD, but then I'd like to make a top for myself. As I said before, it gets really hot here in the summer, but that also means that A/C is cranked everywhere. I need to start making a plan that I can start with and then expand on.

Where are these gorgeous products from your sewing rampage? I've always admired your work. Please share!! ------ blog: encue.blogspot.com

Date: 4/23/11 10:48 AM I've been in crisis sewing mode lately -- making things just to have something to wear. I need to come up with a plan. I need spring/summer clothes desperately and have had no luck buying RTW at all. Now that I've finally fit a couple of top and skirt patterns, I know why. So RTW is pretty much out for me. Spring and summer here can have very hot and humid days as well as cool and breezy days.
I'm currently working on skirts from Simplicity 2948 that will provide the start of my spring/summer wardrobe -- I have 2 completed and 1 more cut out.
Next up is Simp 2257 View D in a light blue linen/rayon blend with McCalls 6078 View B in a co-ordinating floral rayon knit. I bought enough of the linen blend to do a jacket but have only narrowed the choices down to McCalls 6292 View C; Butterick 5617 View C with the View A collar; or Butterick 5616 View A.
These are all new to me patterns so will all have to be fitted and altered -- hopefully I will get some pieces that can be wearable muslins but we'll see.
The fabrics are all prepped and ready to go but I want to finish the skirts first as well as a top to go with one of the skirts from Vogue 8636 -- I've already muslined this top and have a fit I like ... I'm going to do short sleeves for the next version.
Looking forward to inspiration from everyone's summer sewing projects. ------ Sheila

Date: 4/23/11 11:08 AM I've sewn a couple of summer tops and am planning to sew another this weekend. I also have a PMB knock off of a Hot Patterns blouse in the works. It just needs buttons and buttonholes. Then I'll need some tshirts and pants. ------ Marilyn

Date: 4/23/11 5:57 PM Shebear, it sounds like you've already got a great plan going. In thinking about your jacket choices, I really like the B5617. It has a bit more detail than the other Butterick pattern, which would look great with the linen. Also, it may be more versatile than the McCalls pattern, but really any would look good. Cant wait to see your finished garments. Be sure to post them! ------ blog: encue.blogspot.com

Date: 4/23/11 6:12 PM Marilyn, I'm looking forward to seeing how your PMB top turns out. I've been on a fabric shopping rampage, which is really stupid since I'll be going to Chicago in less than 3 weeks to fabric shop. However, I've got some really great summer fabrics now. I also just bought 10, since that's the limit, Simplicity patterns. Most of them are from their new summer offerings.
I like the idea of taking my jeans pattern and turning them into city shorts, I can wear them to work as well. I think I'll work on that after the PR weekend. ------ Visit my blog at http://sewingsaga.blogspot.com
