Date: 4/25/11 4:55 PM I've read a lot about attaching elastic to the seam allowance of a waistband. (& thanks for the tute, Debbie Cook!)
Will this technique work in either a self-faced or Petersham-grosgrain waist w/facing?
Thanks. |

Date: 4/25/11 5:37 PM I've added elastic to a waist-band-less RTW skirt, between the skirt and facing. Worked like a dream. Super-comfortable without any tell-tale elastic bunching. |

Putting a hidden elastic waist in skirts and pants is my go to technique. Very comfy all day long and the garment stays put. I wrote this review about the technique. HTH

Date: 12/3/12 6:50 PM Sewand write - I have also done this on a lined skirt that was a tad too big and it works very well.
Sunnystich - the only way I can think of to do this is to make something like a belt loop and stitch it into the seams of the kurta, running the elastic through the loops. But if you only have side seams, it may not work. I'd love to see the finished product if you figure out a way to do it. ------ http://bgballroom.wordpress.com to follow the progress on my next ballgown. |

Date: 12/4/12 0:09 AM I was inspired by a Burda world of fashion skirt. I used elastic instead of petersham in severak stretch woven skirts. I made one pull on and another had a zipper. The pull on was a straight skirt and the fabric had alot of stretch. The other was stretch denim with a zipper and I subbed the elastic for the facing. ------ My grandmother taught me to sew when I was 10, and I've been sewing ever since. |

Date: 12/15/12 3:37 PM I did it!!! Thanks for the list to Debbie Cook's site (Stitches and Seams.) Easiest waistband I ever sewed!
I was replacing one that hadn't worked out so the shorts are kinda screwy anyway, but I wanted to do it on something that was already poked full of holes to test it. Pretty awesome. And so long as I wear a shirt over the skort, no one will see the original waistband messiness so all is good. ------ I don't sew, I just shout and plead with fabric. Sometimes something wearable results. BearMountainBooks.com |
