Hi All,

Any recommendations for beginning sewing classes in Marin County, California? A friend's 14 year-old daughter would like to learn to sew and they are looking for classes nearby.

All thoughts are appreciated!

Sorry, don't know of anything in Marin, but I can HIGHLY recommend the beginning sewing classes at Stone Mountain & Daughter in Berkeley. My daughter took two classes there when she was 16, and the instructors were friendly, knowledgeable and thorough. For the first class, you get a list of newbie friendly patterns from which you must choose for your first project - the kid chose pajama bottoms which she is still wearing almost four years later.

The classes are intended for adults, though - I think we had to call and get permission for a 16 year old.

HTH and good luck.

Don't let the noise of others' opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary. - Steve Jobs

Thank you Luckylibbet. What a great idea. I've taken classes at Stone Mountain and Daughter and they've been great. I'll check with my friend to see how far they're willing to travel!

Sewing machines are available for all students in the state of the art classroom. Basic fitting and sewing techniques required for garment construction are covered as well as an understanding of how to select fabric that is appropriate for different patterns. RECOMMENDED: Eligibility for READ 836, and ENGL 836 or ESL 400. Transfer: CSU.

I have taken a number of classes at Canada and they are awesome! May be worth the trip.
