Vintage Clothing

If you can believe it, I bought this trunk filled with vintage clothing and linens circa early 1800's-1920's at a YARD SALE! There were notes pinned to most of the items telling who it belonged to and the years it was worn. There are two wedding dresses, one from the 1880's and one from 1920's. There are some stunning pieces of Irish crochet - a lappet in perfect condition and some collars. There was even a long, heavy braid of hair that was cut from the woman to whom most of the clothes belonged.

There are three large, linen sheets for which the owner wove the fabric herself (according to the notes). I'm thinking there are some real possiblities for using all that antique fabric...

Some simply amazing items in this trunk, and the trunk itself is quite a find. At least 100 years old and in very good condition. It was apparently kept in a cool, dry place because there is no mildew or musty odor. I can't wait to really get down and study the sewing techniques. The older pieces are all sewn entirely by hand with incredible detail. WOW!!!

What a find! Finding history is so interesting for me, and you really scored! The things you don't want you might want to donate to your local historical society; that's how ours got their things. Have fun sifting through things and reading the notes. The items are exquisite!
