Date: 5/2/11 2:06 PM New to Pattern Review, I have been combing all advice I can find on purchasing my first serger. I have settled on the Brother 1034D. I am curious if anyone has purchased a refurbished one and how their experience was? I could save some money, but not sure if in the end the savings is worth it, help me decide?

Date: 5/4/11 9:57 AM I was leery of purchasing a "refurbished" serger too. But at the time I had lost my job and on unemployment and so it was an affordable option. After pulling my hair trying to get my Bernina 2500dce to operate correctly, opted for the refurbished 1034d. I hit the jack pot! It has been the best purchase. Stitches beautifully. It even stitched through the edges of my stair step carpet runner. Check the return policy in case you are not satisfied...but I think you will be. |

Date: 5/4/11 10:01 AM If it's refurbished it might come with the original warranty from a dealer. I got a demo Bernina 1010, refurbished, in 1991 and it's still under warranty and going strong! ------ So many projects, not enough time
At my house in VA:

Consew 75T

Date: 5/4/11 10:55 AM The 1034 is all mechanical-- I think you're likely to have good luck with a refurb of this one.
It's also a really nice serger and easy to use. Like the others said, check the warranty and return policy before you take the leap

Date: 6/28/11 2:22 AM I just purchased a refurbished Brother 1034, and am waiting for it to arrive. I will post an update once I have unpacked it and used it. BTW I saw one advertised on ebay with a buy it now of $169 with free shipping and no tax. But I had just read a guys blog when he highly recommended Allbrands for their prompt service and replies to emails, so I looked them up and they had one for the same price only it didn't include free shipping. But I noticed that they had a link asking if you had found it cheaper anywhere else, and after letting them know where i had found it cheaper, they emailed within 5 mins and said they would match everything. I went ahead and placed the order, and they have been amazing in terms of keeping in touch all along the way, even letting me know when it was shipped etc. I can only say good things for the company at this time. will keep you updated about the serger. |

Date: 6/26/12 9:10 PM I dont buy refurbs anymore after buying one and having to return it 3 times for breaking. Luckily, they had a great return/exchange policy and it broke really quickly, so I wasnt out money. Just make sure, like everyone else said, that they have a good return policy. Hope it works out well and you are able to get a great deal!! Btw, amazon has it right now for $198 with free shipping, not sure what price the refurb is. |
