I am curious if others have bought items on the Yahoo group sewitsforsale. Many of the sellers ask for money order or personal check. Is this risky?

Any one here bought a machine from a seller there?

I not only have bought items, but I also have sold things on this group. For me, I will accept a check or money order if the item for sale is as much as I can afford to lose. If not, I ask for PayPal; that's my safeguard. When you become a member, you have access to a list of people who have had problems with other members and you can post problems with members there as well.

I'm no longer a member of the group, but I did make one purchase. I paid with paypal immediately. My only issue seemed to be with extremely slow shipping, but I never reported it. If I recall it was well over a week after payment had been received, before the item was shipped.

I have bought patterns and found it to be fun and safe. I don't know if I would buy a machine from someone I did not know, but I am rather paranoid about things.

I buy and sell on there. I've never bought a machine though. I always use Paypal.

Just found a real bargain on SewItsFor Sale! I purchased 24 yards of 3/8" cording with lip for $15.75 with postage.
I previously bought a hard-to-find Kwik Sew pattern from another seller and I received it quickly. It was in almost-new condition. I always use PayPal for internet transactions whenever it is available, as it is safe and fast. If you send a check, the seller may wait a week or so for it to clear.
The only thing about signing up for this group is that you do receive many emails.

I posted ISO of an item and received a reply. I paid by check and the item was shipped. No issues.

I posted an ISO for a serger... One of the responses I liked the seller was hesitant to pack and ship. Turns out she was only 40 minutes from me! Met, tried out the machine and paid in cash. Happy with the purchase. Love my new-to-me baby lock imagine

I've never bought or sold on there, but I do on the cross stitch sites. If i'm selling I don't ship until the check clears, and we post that up front. Now if they are gals I've dealt with before, and have gotten to know them pretty well thru the boards and emails that's different. If i'm doing the buying, then it's just reversed from what I do.I've never been burned and have been dealing with this board and it's people for almost 13 years.

If people do get burned by a bad apple, then they will out them if they can't get it resolved and there is a place where they post warnings about certain buyers and sellers.
Works for us!!.
