Date: 5/9/11 11:42 AM should probably picture a "must have" summer outfit on the cover.
Just sayin' ...

Date: 5/9/11 2:24 PM I thought the exact same thing when I saw this cover!
I love Threads magazines for the articles, but I haven't ever really been inspired by their fashion sense, or even the photography or design of the magazine. As someone who worked in the fashion industry for years, I've always felt that the styles shown were the weakest part of the magazine.
And lately I think it's gotten worse.
Personally I don't really follow trends, per se. (I'm also in my 40's now, work mostly outside of the fashion industry and so my clothing needs have changed as well.) I do, however, enjoy looking stylish and current. I don't even buy these special issues anymore because I'm so put off by the frumpy covers.
Not inspiring at all!

Date: 5/9/11 2:48 PM I wondered the same thing. What in the world kind of "style" is that. |

Date: 5/9/11 2:56 PM Yeah... I concur. It seemed like a great idea, oddly executed. I wish Threads would tap one of the armies of super-stylish and ultra-popular bloggers to start giving style insight. It often seems that they let down the written content w/ their fashion styling. I have to say though - when it comes together it really works. Thinking of the Vintage issue they did about 3-4 years ago-that was packed with gorgeous garments. Around that era they had some fantastic clothes features. The black/white check dress and the cut off pin-stripe shorts stick out in my head (both covers).
I think it's hangover from when they tried to go more 'beginner.' As far as I remember that's roughly when the styling started to decline into a more low-market kind of look. |

Date: 5/9/11 5:39 PM This past Christmas, I gave up my Burda and subscribed to Threads. I had been purchasing single copies when they looked interesting. I also have been a long time on and off subscriber to Threads and Sew News over the years.
But after an issue or two, I stopped Threads and decided to keep picking up just those issues that seem to interest me.

Date: 5/9/11 6:00 PM OK wait
that is the cover of Sew Stylish
And while I agree on the general style-lessness of the pink thing, the actual Threads magazine DOES show the summer wardrobe, which I also didn't find tantalizing, but that's just me. |

Date: 5/9/11 9:12 PM I dropped my subscription years ago; I'm fashion challenged enough and I need all the help I can get! I didn't want to grow old looking like I was always wearing a quilt. ------ Mary
