Date: 5/25/11 5:15 PM I purchased the Bernina 1300 MDC years ago and have not used it...once.
I find it to difficult to thread and figure out. Are there any videos I can watch online? I may have to sell this serger if I cannot get along with it!
Thanks in advance. |

Date: 5/25/11 6:00 PM I have no problem threading my 1300MDC - this Juki chart is for the same machine made by Juki:
Juki Threading Chart
The one thing I'll recommend is getting the cover looper out of the way when threading the loopers. There is a white button on the inside of the side cover that you push upward and that releases that looper making it easier to thread.
Is there a place to take a class? It would be well worth it. ------ So many projects, not enough time

Date: 5/25/11 8:15 PM Once the cover looper is out of the way the upper and lower loopers are easy. The lower looper has a helper, a white tab that you press before you thread, then release it once it's threaded. I don't have the right language to describe it but the threading chart above is extremely helpful. I did not get a video with my Juki and the instruction book takes getting used to. I would simply keep practicr threading those loopers... I also use dental floss threaders and tweezers. It took some practice for me to go fast but it can be done.

Date: 5/29/11 7:33 AM I bought my new Bernina 1300MDC a couple of weeks ago. My first serger was a Bernette that I bought in the mid-'80s, so I'm familiar with the way they thread and operate. However, the 1300MDC is a new animal for me since it also has the coverstitch feature. My dealer is wonderful and offers free classes when you purchase a machine from her. I've attended the first class which covers all the basics, including threading using 2 needles and 2 loopers. The second and third classes will cover threading for the coverstitch. Since taking my class, I've had no trouble at all threading from scratch. Take a class -- it will make you so much more comfortable with your machine. ------ Patricia

Date: 6/15/11 7:16 AM I found the Bernina channel on YouTube invaluable!
They have 4 Serger specific videos which have helped me figure out the threading, using elasticator foot, et.
Worth checking out for sure.
