Subject: tie dye Date: 6/16/11 5:04 PM

Hi Angela,
I love the idea of dying fabric but not crazy about the tie dye look (it's everywhere here in Berkeley, as you can imagine and transports one to the hippie days!).
any thoughts?

Actually, in this class I do show a few wraps for tye dye, but there is also a lot of dyeing fabric in a pyrex dish for marbling effect, the ombre effect (light to dark) and how to dye solid colors. At the end of the class I also show a little shibori techniques which make great scarves. Don't blame you on the tye dye Let me know if I can help with anything else, Angela

Subject: Equipment Necessary to Complete the Class Date: 6/16/11 7:24 PM

Hi Angela,

I left this message and I am not sure where it went so I will try again. I am really excited about learning the skills related to dying my own fabrics. I especially adore ombre and shibori fabrics. What I would like to know is what equipment is necessary to complete this class and whether I will have access to all of it. I know some people use their washing machines for dying but I have a front loader and that doesn't work real well for dying, I understand.

I don't want to register unless I will be able to complete all the components of the class. At least all those that interest me.

Thanks for your input, Susan

Hi Susan,
Thanks for your question and by the way I love Miami I don't dye any fabrics in the washing machine - the first time my husband's shirts come out pink I am toast! I use glass dishes like pyrex for most of the dyeing, but when I started I used bowls and plates. But I do just want to let you know this class does cover ombre but only a small bit on techniques for Shibori - I plan on doing a full class on Shibori in the future. If you are just starting dyeing fabric you will need the supplies listed in the kit- if I mail it out to you tomorrow you should have it by Wednesday. You might have an art store in your area that you can buy some of this. If you go that route let me know and I will give you a detailed list of what to buy. This class covers quite a bit of different designs and effects of color, I think you will like it and once you learn all these basics, the Shibori will come a lot easier. Let me know if you have any more questions,
Angela

Subject: Class kit - can it be sent to Australia? Date: 1/4/12 1:16 PM

Hi Angela,

I'm thinking of taking this course but I'm concerned that some of the kit contents can't be sent internationally or that they may be stopped by customs. I'm only concerned because I don't know what all of the items are and if they are considered to be "dangerous goods".

Have you sent kits to Australia before and have you had any issues? If need be, I can try to source the items locally but I'm not sure where to find them here!!

Thanks,
Belinda

Hi Belinda,
Thanks for asking as I cannot send kits to Australia but I can give you a list of exact supplies from Dharmatrading.com and they do now ship to Australia. Let me know if you decide to take the class and I will send you a private email with a detailed list.

Thanks for the reply Angela!

According to the Dharma Trading site, they cannot ship flammables internationally. Do any of the kit items fit into this category? If not, then I will sign up later today.

I originally wasn't planning on taking this class because I'm not a fan of tie-dye but I'm now keen to take this class because I'm taking your French Jacket class and the hand dyed linings in the videos are just beautiful!

Another question, do you cover dying wool fabrics also?

Thanks!
Belinda

Hi Belinda,
I don't cover dyeing with wool, just silk, cotton, and knits. I will call dharma and see if they can ship everything on the list and get back to you soon.
Thanks for taking my jacket class

Subject: Questions: Date: 1/10/12 11:04 PM

Hey Angela,

I was wondering what is included in the kit? Is there charmeuse or any fabric samples in it? If not, where do you recommend we purchase the white charmeuse for dying, and other fabrics to be prepared for class?

Also, how many videos are offered in this class?

Thanks so much - really enjoying the jacket class.

Subject: Dharma shipping to Australia Date: 1/11/12 5:09 AM

Hi Angela,

Did you have any luck calling Dharma? I'm still pretty keen to take this class and if they don't ship to Australia then I can try to source the supplies locally, although the brands may vary.

Thanks,
Belinda
