I am going to make swimsuits for my nieces.
Do you ladies have a good source for buying lycra online?

Thanks

Chris

My grandmother taught me to sew when I was 10, and I've been sewing ever since.

For years I've been making my girls' swimsuits and I've always purchased the fabric and lining from Spandex House. They have an awesome selection and their prices are the best I've seen around.

Then, e-mails were written on paper and put in weird paper things called envelopes and the postal system delivered them. This was slow. Finally, e-mail as we know it came around."

I am confused... there are so many different types of lycra. Also I see different weights.
Which ones are the best for swimsuits/bikinis?
I don't like the shinny ones

The Milliskin Matte in about 6oz/yd is perfect for swimwear.

On some of the websites (Spandex World is one), they list recommended uses for each product (watch for "swimwear"). I've had success with every piece of lycra that I've used that was specifically labeled for swimwear - but I've been disappointed when it wasn't.

You didn't ask, but I highly recommend having lining available.

I love making swimsuits!

I jus tfinished my first swim suit. I bought the fabric from an ebay store named Happy Joy Time Fabrics. I paid $20 for the lining and the fabric and have enough to make at least one more. I bought the swim cups and swimwear elastic from Sew Sassy. I was happy with the elastic it is just like what you find in RTW. But, I did not like the Swim cups they came as two separate cups and were shaped funny or I am shaped funny one of the two also I read most cups come attached to something so you get one peice and not two. I had to figure out where they went on the lining and sew them on and they ended up looking funny, I just took them back out and made a shelf type bra out of the lining material. I have tons of it left over.
