Date: 5/31/11 9:32 PM There is an local ad for a Bernina 1130 in near perfect condition. It is a bit of a drive for me but I am thinking I will look at it when my days off come up this week. I have a savings of 400 and they are asking 700. I think I might be able to squeeze a couple hundred from my bank account but I know DH will be upset.... Besides that, this would be the only real way I could afford a Bernina... I have been sitting on the fence for one to come along for many years and this looks like an opportunity to jump. I really do not need the machine. I already have TWO Singer 201-2's and my Janome. What would you do? Is it worth the consequence of upsetting my DH?? ...OK, I was not really seeking an answer regarding DH. Of course I do not want to upset him but he did kindly help to make room for my last purchase. ------ Janome MC6600 Bernina 240 Juki MO735 Singer 201-2 Singer 221-1 Singer 15-91 |

Date: 6/2/11 9:15 PM I am glad I did not get the machine... I would have given too easily to the temptation of it...
I did find another Bernina, a 730 that supposedly has never been used. I don't know if it is the older 730 or not and I am waiting for a response. If it is a newer model then $300 they are asking for is cheaper compared to prices I see on ebay.
I did email the Williston Bernina dealer 'Stitched', to throw my name in for a class machine, sold after the Vermont Quilt Festival later this month. I am still on the fence about this but at least I can walk away if the prices are too high. ------ Janome MC6600 Bernina 240 Juki MO735 Singer 201-2 Singer 221-1 Singer 15-91 |

Date: 6/3/11 7:43 PM You are so right! There is a time and place for everything and if I really wanted to get a Bernina without paying absurd prices I have to be patient and continue my search.
As it turns out the 730 is a Bernette - a Taiwan made 1996 mechanical that is most likely a Janome... not that it as bad but not the Swiss made I was hoping for... If I wanted a mechanical Janome I would get one rather than in the guise of another brand.
There is a review for this machine in the archives which rates it ok and most likely a Riccar or Necchi, two brands I'd never consider. -- Edited on 6/3/11 9:49 PM -- ------ Janome MC6600 Bernina 240 Juki MO735 Singer 201-2 Singer 221-1 Singer 15-91 |
