Date: 7/15/11 5:49 PM I'd like to make something like these aden + anais swaddle blankets and would like fabric suggestions. My mom got me some burp cloths from this company and I think it is the same fabric. It seems like a heavy cheese cloth--not what I would call muslin at all.
Does anyone have suggestions? Perhaps cotton gauze? Or is there some other fabric that I'm unaware of?
I've made two flannel and one jersey one so far, but since he'll be a summer baby (due at the end of aug, which here in so cal means summer weather is just starting!), I think they'll be too warm until November or so. Well, the jersey one might be okay. |

Subject: fabric for muslin swaddling blankets? Date: 7/15/11 10:26 PM "Muslin" in some parts of the world IS a cheese-cloth-like fabric. Here in Australia, you can buy "baby muslin" in fabric shops. It looks like what that company are using. I don't know what this fabric is called elsewhere - maybe it is cotton gauze? We need a speaker of American English to advise us.
I was confused as to why an American company was using the word "muslin" in a British/Australian English way. But apparently the company was started by an Australian.

Subject: fabric for muslin swaddling blankets? Date: 7/16/11 3:54 AM JoAnn carries a really nice birdseye cotton diaper cloth that might work for this. It's very soft, with an interesting cross-hatch texture and ever-so-slight shine to it. It's about $3/yard (but is only like 24" wide). ------ ~Gem in the prairie |

Date: 7/16/11 8:50 AM I think it is more like double gauze. I know it is available on Etsy. Here is a link.. Double gauze on Etsy
I know that you can get cotton gauze in Canada at Fabricland, and occasionally double gauze. Fabric.com also has gauze.
Hope that helps- sometimes just knowing the right "term" can be an aid in sourcing things! Good luck!

Subject: fabric for muslin swaddling blankets? Date: 7/16/11 11:39 AM Thanks everyone! Interesting to know that the definition of muslin changes with the country.
And Connie, those fabrics on Etsy are amazing!!
Off to browse and shop. Although I do have some cuts of cotton gauze that was intended for dresses of me. I might cut them up for swaddling blankets. In addition to some prints perhaps from that etsy link! |

Date: 7/17/11 11:30 PM Sky - wish I knew where to find this fabric! We used these to swaddle our little guy. Loved loved them! He's now 11 months old and we use them as his blankets.
If you find some of this fabric, definitely show off anything you make with it!
