My bride is recreating a 1950's wedding dress look using Vogue pattern 1094. My Webpage. The dress is fashioned out of beaded chantilly lace. lace. She is petite with a stocky build. I am wonderng if I should cut the fashion fabric underlayment as a full circle skirt without the gathers to eliminate bulk. The galloon edge will be re embroidered around the bottom of the tea length. Underskirt fashion fabric is silk taffeta. Thanks for your advice. I just do not want her to look like a sausage.

by all means, reduce gathers wherever possible. Also, is this bride really better off with a dropped waist as the pattern shows, or a natural waist? Never having seen her, I can't tell.

Thanks for the suggestion. Yes, we are raising to a natural waist line. I am unsure how a gathered circle skirt will look on a size 14-16. Do you think a full circle skirt is more flattering on a stockier bride? Or maybe a circle with unpressed pleats instead of gathers?

What she loves in this pattern is the fullness of the skirt and a little arm coverage. She will have over $500 in the lace alone, so I want to make sure the dress if fabulous.

Thanks in advance for your advice.

Clara - I used to do a lot of square dancing and the women wear outfits like THIS.

I remember noticing that they looked much slimmer in their outfits than they did in street clothes no matter how much gathering there was in the skirt. The big crinolines create a nice waist-cinching effect. Personally, I moved to a gored circle skirt because I got fed up with all that gathering and I like the uncluttered lines.

If you want big crinolines under this gown, you might want to check out the square dance clothing suppliers.
