Date: 8/12/11 1:04 PM I have started these pants and am quite pleased so far BUT I have a question to anyone who might know about this - the pattern calls for an 8.0 double needle. I cannot find this in the stores and after talking with a sales clerk, doubt it would even fit into my older machine (Bernina 1260). I bought a size 80 4.0, thinking that would work. Any advice from those who have made it? I'm really curious about it and if they exist, would work in my machine and what the purpose of it is. I have a coverstitch machine, so rarely use the double needles. Thanks! ------ Stefanie |

Date: 8/12/11 1:21 PM I've made both versions of these pants, (3 total) & I didn't use a double needle at all. Where does she want you to use this needle? (sorry I'm too lazy to go look it up ) ------ http://jillybejoyful.blogspot.com/

Date: 8/12/11 9:19 PM It calls to use a double needle when stitching for the waistband casing in view B (elastic all the way around.) You use it at the top and bottom of the casing. ------ Stefanie |

Date: 8/12/11 9:34 PM oops - I need to eat my words! I just looked, & realized that I did indeed do a double needle topstitching at the waistband on one pair.
I think your 4,0/80 needle is probably exactly what she was referring to, so I'm sure you're fine -- Edited on 8/12/11 9:34 PM -- ------ http://jillybejoyful.blogspot.com/

Date: 8/12/11 11:30 PM I'm sure you are fine. I've also made these pants 3 times (am wearing one right now) and used a single needle. It's a sporty look, but no one is close enough to be looking at my waistband under my top. ;) ------ http://communingwithfabric.blogspot.com/ |

Date: 8/13/11 1:11 AM Schmetz does make extra wide twin needles. Unfortunately, you'll need a 9.0 mm machine to actually sew with such a needle.
