Date: 8/15/11 6:12 AM I recently bought some suiting fabric to make pants. I made the front with waistband and pockets and on starting the back found markings on the fabric that must have come from the manufacturer. They are numbers scribbled in a orange lettering - rather like paint. Does any one know if these can be removed. The fabric is dry clean only. I know I could return the fabric, but I have already put a lot of work into it.
I have learnt a lesson though! to check fabric throughly BEFORE cutting. |

Date: 8/15/11 8:34 AM I've gotten some like that (From the G STreet $2.97/yd table so I know to look out for it). I found nothing that would get it out, though I didn't try drycleaning - I knew it was there and cut around it. But tried washing and scrubbing, etc. the scrap that was left it the markings on it and they stayed. BTW, my fabric was wool or (more likely) a wool blend. |

Date: 8/15/11 9:25 AM will it be on the inside? I have some fabric like that. I usually cut around it. But if i can't i just put it on the inside and no one can see it. That type of the fabric is usually the begining or the end pieces of the fabric. When it roll of the fabric machine thay mark it. If they are in decent shape they will sell them cheep. I would look at it if it doesn't show through use it on the inside.

Date: 8/15/11 9:40 AM I have a piece of fabric like that too, the clerk said it would come out in the wash ......... but it didn't! Big orange numbers & letters on it. But since it has been washed I cannot return it either. .... My writing is on the right side of the fabric too.... ....... Be interesting if anyone has a true method to get rid of it! Let's keep our fingers crossed! ------ I am a gal from Kalamazoo.... oh what a gal... smile.... It is in Michigan... la la la ...love that Glen Miller classic!

Date: 8/15/11 12:43 PM It is nice to get feedback on this. Thanks so much. I did phone the shop and explained and they said they have never come across this before (try not to be cynical, but I doubt this). They said that as it has been cut out they can't do anything, but if I bring it back they will look at it. By the way it did come off a roll and is a wool mix. The problem is the cost of the journey back would be too expensive and really not worth it. Looking at the fabric, it is not too different on the reverse side (yes - the marks are on the front side) and it may be I could unpick and remake using the wrong side OR maybe I will just put it done to experience!! |
