Hello all, I'm looking for a quilting machine and came across a Babylock Quest Plus at my local dealer. The problem is that the machine is a demo and I don't know if it's worth spending $1800. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Uh, NO! I paid $1300 new for mine, with the workbook and SITD foot included. Same dealer had their last one at $999 last time I was there. It IS an excellent machine, maybe WORTH the $1800, but that's not a good price. I wrote a review on my QP for PR.

Thanks Maria, even though it looks like a very nice machine, I thought it wasn't worth $1800. Some of these dealers are just crazy with their pricing.

No again. I would not pay that much for a Quest Plus.

The Quest Plus has been replaced by the Serenade so it should be discounted for being both a demo and a discontinued model.

I would say you are pretty close with that 899. I remember many a times this machine was on sale.. for 999. And since its now an older model.. you do the math.

Armed with this info.. I would head in there and asked just what Maia said.. ''You must mean 899.. as the machine was on sale many times before for 999, and is now a close out model''

Shoot .. for 1899, you could get a lot of models, in fact a lot of like models sale for less than that. for instance the Juki..which sells for a mere 999.. and some have knocked l00 off that.. The 6600P Janome.. which is now of course closed out.. but I bet the newer replacement is close to the l900 in cost. HARD Negotiating is the key to paying a fair price for a machine. Being educated as to what others have paid.. and what other model options you have in that price range should give you the confidence to deal.. with the dealer..

And are you kidding me.. a demo to boot.. 750 would be my TOP offer.. and it better come with that extra 200 dollar foot package too for that price.

Well I just called up to the store and asked to speak to the owner's wife. I basically asked her how is she selling the Quest Plus for $1800 when it is discontinued and a demo and have been on sale several times for $999. Well she wasn't there yesterday, and she told me that I'm right that there must have been some kind of mistake for the price I was given. She told me to come in and we will talk about a good price. She said she would give me the bottom line price for it. So I will go in and see what this bottom line price is. I am soooo tired of these dealers trying to beat everyone.

This now 4 years later and not sure if anyone reads these posts anymore. I am looking at this machine used with a Quilter's table that fits it. Is it worth $500?
