I've been working on my winter jacket, and wanted to bag the lining by machine (similar to the method shown in Threads here: http://www.threadsmagazine.com/item/4366/bag-your-jacket-lining). However, when I read my instructions I realised that the lining should be no more than 1" shorter than the outer fabric. Of course mine isn't. Does anyone know how badly the coat will turn out if I just throw caution to the wind and try to sew it all together anyway?

Thanks in advance!

I say try it. what could you loose. I did that on a childs jacket and it worked. Good luck.

Thanks, you're right. Worst case scenario I just unpick some stitches!

When I bag a lining I make the lining the same length minus the hem. As I always use a 3.5cm-4cm width hem the difference in length is more than 1" (2.5cms) and it works.

Thanks--that makes me feel more confident doing it.
