I visited one of my local JA stores on the way to grocery shop yesterday and pick up a few Vogues for $3.99. To my surprise, Vogue is now down to 2 drawers and New Look is gone ! Burda is also 2 drawers. Even though patterns are on sale there is no signage indicating that.....hmmm. Most of the pattern drawers are empty. I wonder if this is just this store or if others are having the same experience.

I was there 2 to 3 weeks ago at the .99 McCalls sale looking at pj patterns for a class, and I noticed lots of empty drawers at ours too, but I didn't spend much time looking. There were 2 women together, really pulling out patterns, nice and polite too, so I stayed out of their way. I haven't been in a pattern buying mode lately.

I wonder if this has anything to do with the new ownership of JA, the stocking of Runway fabrics. The Walmart flyer that I got saying Walmart was bringing back fabrics. (My husband may be parking me in the fabric section again, if ours returns.)
Could it be a good thing? A better selection, the big 4 making a fabric store stand, maybe independents coming in???

When I was recently there shopping at the 99.c McCall's pattern sale, I noticed this as well. Vogue and Buttericks were almost non-existent. A number of the patterns I had written on my McCall's wish list (even though new this year) were sold out, and over half the drawers were empty in total. The most numerous patterns by far were Simplicity, though even they looked half empty.
I also noticed that the racks of "It's so Easy" and such were mostly empty and not restocked. I'm not sure what it means....

Walmart never stocked Vogue, and it never stocked Burda. If Joann's were to stop stocking those patterns, and instead complete directly with Walmart for the bottom of the barrel, it would lose.

Our Walmart had Simplicitys of various kinds, McCalls, New Looks. I would often get dropped off in the fabric dept. and asked to stay there until I got picked up. It was perfect for both of us.

I prefer a smaller JoAnns in my area but now need to go to the slightly larger one across town, Even there, the Vogue, in particular, is a little thin in what is in stock. Sadly, the day may be coming when I have to get Vogue from the website ~ and then pay for shipping. If I were to depend on the internet for patterns, I would probably own fewer.

A lot of the JAs are being rearranged (not entirely for the better, IMO), so it's possible the OP came in in the middle of all this? After they finished moving everything around in our store, they had shifted all the New Looks from the drawers to a wall display. It's kinda nice to just see everything at a glance, I guess, although I typically find what I want online and bring in a list. (shrug)

Hmmm...I've noticed fewer pattern drawers at my JA's too. Didn't give it much thought until thinking about it when reading this thread. I wonder if this fewer pattern thing has more to do with the pattern companies than Joanns? Vogue & Butterick are owned by McCalls, while Simplicity is it's own company like Burda & Kwik Sew. It seems there are still boatloads of Simplicity patterns in the drawers but much less of the other 3. I sure hope this doesn't mean some patterns are disappearing for good!

My local JoAnn's was just remodeled in the past year. I've noticed the empty pattern drawers also. Yesterday I went in with a list of 12 Vogue patterns. I was able to get four. In the last month, they cut out four feet of buttons..it looks like the metal buttons are gone. They did restock the button wall finally, but in the past year they have lost about 16 feet of buttons plus two spinner racks.

There is a superstore in the area, but it is inconvient to get two..2 busses..

Since Butterick is on sale all week, I'm wondering how empty those drawers will be at the end of the week.

Why not contact corporate and ask them why XYZ store is not offering the patterns you are wanting to purchase?
