I volunteered to organize a PR birthday gathering in Southern California -- the gathering I had in mind is much less formal than some of the other locations. We are so spread out that if someone else has an idea for something more structured, I encourage you to start a thread and go for it -- there are so many PR people here in Cali we could organize a bunch of events on the big day.
When I started thinking about the day, I considered making it a shopping experience --- I don't know about you, but the last thing I need is more fabric. We are lucky to live in a land of fabric bounty. For me the most memorable part of any PR event is the opportunity to talk to other sewing enthusiasts, put faces with screen names and share our love of the craft. I'm proposing that we have a gathering to do just that --- meet, talk about sewing, bring or wear something to share and have a piece of birthday cake in honor of PR.
I'd like to host a pot luck at my home, in Huntington Beach. I have had these gatherings before, and it is amazing how long the group can hang out and talk sewing! I'll set up a "claim it" table -- your fabric and pattern mistakes might be just what someone else is looking for. Bring a snack to share, your sewing challenges to discuss (success and failure), wear something you made and be ready to talk and laugh as you get to know your virtual friends in person.
If you are interested, post on this thread and let me know if there is anything specific you would like to discuss or do. -- Edited on 9/26/11 12:18 PM -- ------ 2012 : starting stash 386, net additions 206, used 164, ending stash 428

Date: 9/18/11 10:52 PM Kathi, I love the get-togethers at your house. You have such a beautiful home and yard. I've already put this event on my calendar and have a couple of recipes I'd love to fix for the event. I'm even sewing again so I'll have something I've made to wear and of course I have fabric to share. ------ Visit my blog at http://sewingsaga.blogspot.com

Date: 9/20/11 0:46 AM Oh darn! I'm flying up to my Mom's on the 16th to help with things in the house and to bring her down for Thanksgiving. I am so disappointed. You are probably only a couple of miles from my house here in Fountain Valley. Unlucky me. |

Date: 9/20/11 12:33 PM Rose - you are right, I'm practically in your neighborhood, the timing just isn't right...but I'm sure there will be a next time.
Based on the other responses it sounds like we have a party --- hopefully we can attract more people and make it a bash.
Looking forward to seeing everyone on Nov 19th.
