Frame them, maybe? I am not sure what I would do with them and I am trying to understand what they are for. I will visit her blog more often. ------ Quilting is relaxing to me. The lines on the croquis mark the major measurement lines like Bust, Waist and Hips. A croquis helps a designer to draw the garment they have in mind while keeping track of the "nuts and bolts" of the design. But what if you are only a home seamstress? Well, I take my cue from Simplicity's Project Runway patterns. You can mix and match the various bodices and sleeves and skirts etc. So if you're contemplating a Franken-dress, you can test what it will look like with this drawing. Often, I see something from RTW that I like but I want sleeves when it's sleeveless or a wider skirt. I typically draw a [clumsy] design of my ideal garment. With a croquis, it's far easier to get the proportions right. kittykate Intermediate ON CANADA Member since 12/18/02 Posts: 1049	Login to reply to this post Like this post Date: 10/1/11 4:47 PM Good enough place as any to post this, but I use an iTouch (saving up for the iPad) and an app called Brushes, and uploaded the croquis from Threads because it's a very basic croquis, not too designer-y. Often I have someone ask me an idea for a costume and it's very simple to open a new croquis, sketch the idea onto it, and later be able to email, print or revise. A lot of people I work with are tech people. I still use a notebook but this app based on a simple croquis is very simple to use and I don't have to sketch out a body first. Although my body was usually an oval on a triangle (body/hip) and stick arms and legs.

Even I wouldn't pay the money for an iphone.I was inspired by Project Runway last season where they got the HP touchsmart laptops and were drawing directly on them. I wanted to do something the same, for free, or almost so.

I've used a homemade (and much cruder) croquis before to check the proportions of an outfit before investing the time to make it. Skirts are a real issue for me, for example, because if the proportions with the intended top aren't quite right, the skirt ends up looking wider than it is long even if it's not. Subject: Ursa Majors Fashion Croquis Date: 10/30/11 11:42 AM I found a plus sized one on craftster that one of the members made for herself. It is fairly accurate, but I'm a little smaller busted. DH was a little startled by it, but it works really well. I can get a good idea of how certain design lines are going to look on me. ------ Marilyn January 2009 to January 2010 81 yards out and 71yards in January 2010 to the present 106.7 yards out and 146.5 yards in. January 2011 to the present: 47 yards out and 69 yards in.
