Date: 10/26/11 1:13 PM I just found some fabulous coral corduroy, fairly wide rib at the wonderful Gayfeather Fabrics. I would like to make a simple (i.e. not very tailored) jacket with it and need some pattern suggestions. I usually use independent patterns. I have small shoulders compared to the rest of me, so maybe no raglan sleeves. Ideas? |

Date: 10/26/11 7:41 PM I think your fabric would make a great raw-edged/fringed-seam jacket (the corduroy will fuzz up nicely at the seam allowances)! There was recently a thread on doing the fringe, if you can't find a pattern designed for that technique. ------ ~Gem in the prairie |

Date: 10/27/11 8:55 AM I have a cord jacket that has been my standard fall coat for years now, and still gets frequent compliments. (Though probably as much for the printed cordoroy as for the sewing work.)
I used a vintage pattern, but stylistically it's very similar to B5144 (loose-fitting, somewhat wide sleeves, no fastenings.) |

Date: 10/27/11 9:35 AM Simplicity 2154 and 2229 both have basic jackets that look simple and easy to wear. I really like both jackets in 2154-- very retro looking! One is only for stretch knits though, but the other looks like it would be fine for a woven. |

Date: 10/27/11 9:38 AM I like Butterick 5617 too, and if you were hoping for something more like a typical denim jacket, you might like Butterick 5616. |

Date: 10/30/11 3:35 AM I've got the HotPatterns Shirt-Jacket pattern and I plan (one day!) to make it up in corduroy. I've got a similar RTW jacket that I wear all the time. I haven't made it up yet so I can't say what the instructions/drafting/final product are like but I'm hoping that it'll be a good pattern. I mention it because you said you like using independent pattern companies and also because it's on special offer at the moment! |
