Hello everyone:

I need some advice on a project that I'm working on. I'm making McCall pattern 3448 with the fur collar. Everything is fine except the fur that goes around the collar will not lay flat so it bunches in the back at the neck. I don't know how to correct this problem. It's very noticeable. Any advice you can give me, would be appreciated.

I'm bumping this up so someone can hopefully have some ideas for you!

You might have tried all of these already, but some obvious things to check: Have you graded and snipped the curve around the neck yet? Fur is pretty thick and that seam will be awfully bulky; grading will remove some of the bulk keeping it from lying flat, and the snipping will allow it to bend smoothly around the curve of the neckline.

Likewise, press what you can (which might not be much, depending on your fabrics). That will usually help bulky seams behave better.

Good luck!

If it's faux fur, i'd recommend not pressing it. Heat can damage it. You might want to try trimming down the fur on your seam allowances, clipping curves, and so forth.
