I purchased some cotton/ lycra fabric online for some Jalie tops. Unfortunately the fabric does not stretch lengthwise though it stretches very well from side to side. The patterns call for fabric that stretches in both directions. Has anyone made any of the Jalie top patterns in fabric that only has 2 way instead of 4 way stretch and if so, did it work okay?

I have attempted this two times, one time with success. I think if you're going to do this, you'll need to go up a size or two in the pattern to account for the lack of stretch. I did it once with the pattern 2682 and I used some fleece with the stretch going in the wrong direction (Doh!). That time it was an accident. The second time, I made the pleated cardigan with some fabric that only stretched in one direction, and even then, it just barely met the stretch requirements. On that one, I think I made a size or two bigger, and, I lowered the armholes on the pattern by an inch or so. It was a success and I still wear that cardigan alot. Good luck!
