I am asking for this ( http://www.amazon.com/Brother-1034D-Lay--Thread-Serger/dp/B0000CBK1L/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1321408325&sr=8-1 ) for a Christmas present this year. I read all the reviews and I am working on the thread here. Its my first serger. Im scared lol! Do you all still like yours? Or are there any other ones that I should look at in the price range?
Thank you so much,
Tammy

WOW...read that whole thread through.Odd you ask because I just mentioned I still love mine after 6 years. I mentioned it on the thread I started on the new Brother serger that turns out not to be new. SO really, yes, the 1034D is one little tough serger. I use it to serge seams and finish edges on facings and that sort of thing, and it is great. Only had one routine servicing, and the tech pronounced it a "great little machine."Get ready to keep it clean and oiled.

I have to agree... I have had mine for almost a year now. I am loving it, and still learning what it can do.. I also read that whole thread. There is a lot of great information, and helpful tips. Don't be afraid.. it's very user friendly. I was a bit intimidated at first, most likely because I had never used one or knew anyone that had. Once you get familiar with it you will be very happy!!

I have had mine for about 6 mos and got it from Amazon. I wished that I hadn't waited so long. It is easy to use. I had to change the needles and thread right away when I got mine but once I did that it has sewn like a dream.

I've been sewing on mine for a year & a half plus and it still does everything I throw at it, & does it well - I'm very happy.

Of course, this was my first serger, so I have nothing to compare it to, but I sure don't have anything to complain about Including the price! I bought a refurb online, & it's never given me a moment of problems. Except for operator frustration figuring out how to thread it. Once I got that down, I can now rethread the entire thing in 2-3 minutes.

I got mine for Christmas last year too, and really loved it. I say loved, as I just sold it last week, but only because I had the opportunity to upgrade all my machines and I don't have the space to keep it. For the price, it is a very nice machine, and you can be serging within 20 minutes of getting it out of the box. The threading is not hard, there are detailed diagrams on the machine itself so you don't have to lug out your manual every time. The only thing I didn't like is that I think I got a bad foot pedal (it worked, but it was really finicky), but I bought a new one a couple months ago and it made a difference. I always need to do a test seam, but usually only minor (if any) tension adjustments are ever needed (usually the result of my kids touching the dials).

I sold mine to a friend, and when I threaded it for her and demo-ed it, it produced a seam so perfectly balanced right off the bat, I almost changed my mind and wanted to keep it.
