Thanks for voting in the contest survey. The wait is over. Here's the list for next year.

We usually try to run 12 contests in a year but since pattern and stash contests are so popular I didn't count them so there will be 14 contests next year.

Like this year, there will be 4 surprise 2 week challenge contests which will be announced as the time comes close.

A few changes based on the feedback from you guys and the contest committee.

1. Voters will be able to vote for more than one entry.
2. Instead of the random entry prize, we will have a first prize and 2nd prize.
3. We will have additional honorary badges for the entries. I'll talk about that a little later.

I am super excited about this lineup of contests. Like every year we have a good mix of old and some new contests to keep up the fun factor.

How exciting! I'm looking forward to quite a few of these, particularly the jeans one as I've never dared jeans before. 2011 was meant to be my "year of the PR contest" but earthquakes got in the way a bit. This list has definitely inspired me to start taking part in 2012 instead

Lined Jacket contest appears twice, once in March and once in September-October. I'm wondering if that is correct.

Looks like a great collection. I'm looking forward to jeans!

The best project you could be working on is the one that's on the table right now.

Oops. Just fixed it. Swimwear is up instead of lined jacket.

This one not so much.

I agree that for some contests a 2nd prize makes sense. For the contests that depend on number of entries, like Fabric Stash, this is very fair. and a random drawing seems silly (we have been saying that for 2 years.) But for some contests a random prize is appropriate and motivating - like Lined Jacket. I know I will never win that contest - I am still learning to do a basic lined jacket. And I am not motivated to enter the contest just to enter it, sorry. I want a shot to win at least some small prize. Think of the Think Pink contest - it was a win-win for everyone. I pushed to finish an entry to win a prize. I know that depended on the generosity of the donor, but even some small items make it fun instead of hopeless.

Why can't there be a variety of award methods and prizes? In those more challenging contests, like the Lined Jacket and Vintage where the project complexity, skill levels, and photography play key factors in winning have some kind of "boobie" prize randomly given. In other contests like Pattern Stash, just give a 1st and 2nd.

Just some ideas...

Love the lineup of contests! I'll do my very best to enter to mini-wardrobe again this year (because last year's really helped change my sewing strategy, for the better!).

And I really appreciate your trying to create a voting and prize method that seems more fair - thank you for that :)

Regarding the random prize, I do appreciate that you are offering prizes based more on skill, determination, creativity, and talent than with blind luck. Kudos to those who enter because they want to learn and/or share something, expand their community, push their own limits, etc. There are so many great reasons to enter one of these contests other than just a chance at a lucky random drawing.

Great lineup! Can I ask what the RTW contest is? Is that copying a RTW garment, or something else?

I enter for all those reasons ("learn and/or share something, expand their community, push their own limits, etc" )- but I like a pat on the back sometimes too. I think most of the folks who hate the random prize have either won a contest or are serious contenders to being able to do so (though I make no claims to that being a 100% trueism). I am not a serious contender for an "earned" win, and will never be - I just don't do that kind of prize winning sewing. I don't really care to be put down for that (implying that I don't have an attitude of: "learn and/or share something, expand their community, push their own limits, etc". ) I also find that those that don't like the random drawing prize tend to take a superior attitude that puts down a random prize as somehow "unearned". I totally oppose that thinking - by entering the contest we have earned a right to be considered.

It isn't my site - I am not a sponsor - I am not on a committee - and I will not be upset no matter how this is all decided - it is just my opinion, I don't feel a need to "be right" or "do it my way" (not saying anyone is saying that , btw). I was just offering some input from another perspective.
