Does anyone know what this is about? There is a notice on the Simplicity website, but with no details.

Digging way back in my memory, i believe that for a long time Simplicity was Burda's importer. Maybe they have decided to renew or expand their relationship.

Actually, it looks as though something like this has been in the works since about 2009:

It's been a slow boat.....

Personally, I would like an option of buying the European Burda envelopes....they don't have seam allowances which makes altering a snap....and way more accurate for thread tracing.

I feel the same way about that. Roberta Carr, the late Burda maven so important in getting Burda known in the American sewing community, had a lot of interaction with the company, and when they discussed the American market, she lobbied hard for no seam allowances for these reasons, but Burda figured the Americans would prefer to go with a system they were familiar with.

I hope they at least go for a 1/2 inch allowance, the 5/8 allowance of the big four is so wonky.

For many decades there has been a relationship between Simplicity and Burda. To be honest I've never understood what it was exactly, but back in the 80's the Burda envelope patterns didn't have seam allowances. Then there was this lobby to include seam allowances for the American market and somehow Simplicity got involved. I thought they printed and distributed the patterns for Burda and have done ever since (like they sound like they will be doing for Kwik Sew going forward), but don't quote me on this. I could be totally wrong.

Two of the most user-unfriendly websites in sewing coming together... it's like an explosion of yuck.

Dresscode, are the Burda envelopes sans sa's available via any European pattern website? Surely someone sells them.

With Burda/Simplicity and Kwik Sew/McCall's all consolidating their relationships, makes me think this signals a trend in home sewing. - That it's either growing or lessening in popularity, and the companies are positioning themselves to make the most of the situation.

I do hope Burda and Kwik Sew retain their individual differences and don't get all homogenized. Even though Kwik Sew doesn't work for me, I want them out there doing what they do!
