I made Vogue V1250 recently and I really liked it. However, I need a few changes to make it fit me: The cowl neck is simply too much/deep. Instead of giving the illusion of having a bigger bust, the folds completely obscured mine - I look completely flat sideways. Also, the front neckline dips down to my lower bust line so I have to wear a tank inside otherwise I would be flashing everyone in sight (I suspect this is due to the small bust).

I canít seem to find a good tutorial on making an SBA for cowl necks. Iím thinking of removing a triangle wedge from the center front, starting at the neckline and all the way down to waist. Would that reduce the wideness and the deepness of the cowl?

Thanks!
Steph

I think that's right (and re-straighten the top edge).

I realize this is kind of late for your post but perhaps someone else might find this helpful-I have a tutorial on this at In-House Patterns. In-House Patterns

Someone mentioned modifying a separate cowl neck piece from the usual rectangle to a crescent shape so there is less bulk at the back neckline. Anyone have preferred measurements for this?

I find a separate piece often hangs better than a foldover cowl, depending on the fabric. With the foldovers, the necklines can be more of a boat-neck style than the circle-scarf effect.

I used KS3740 (long sleeve w/cowl) and found that neck piece was too high for my short neck and also too revealing. Go to this blog, janmadeblogspot.com and she has solved the problem. I have made two so far and have shortened the neck piece in height and also matched the new neckline dimensions. Worked out great ! Good luck.

Look at the Anthropologie Pleated Cowl. (Can someone add photo?)

Looks like a nice width and depth for the neck for Short or Tall. Anyone have a drafting idea for the length and width of the pattern piece to add to a round neck?
