I need a backup emb machine and the local dealer has a new 1250D for $1600, or a 2-year-old trade in 2500D for $2000. I am not very familiar with this line, and there are very few reviews on these models for comparison. Any advice appreciated! (I do need the 6x10 hoop area which the 2500 offers, but can use the multiposiitonal hoop on the 1250, although more trouble and time).

HI again, If you want to use the Brother 1250 D and only use the embroidery part of the machine, then I would buy one of the Brother 5 by 7 embroidery only machines. The cost would be less than what you would pay for the Brother 1250D. Also, If your design is larger than 5 by 7, you would have to split the design on a 5 by 7 hoop embroidery machine. You would not have to do that on the 2500D as long as the design size fits inside of the 6 by 10 inch hoop.

HI, Yes, I use Nebs with the plastic sides and they work out fine.
