Amazing find in my stash -- copyright?? 1976 plans for fab sewing center

Inside -- a magazine article from September 1976 Woman's Day magazine and the plans I had ordered from that article. The plans are for a truly nifty "compact sewing center cabinet." The cabinet is an outer box about 43" high, 64" wide and 18"deep. It has a pair of bi-fold louvered doors across the front that open out. This "garage" cabinet houses a wheel out cabinet of drawers and shelves to store sewing supplies and a wheel out cart with drop leaves for the machine to sit on. With the leaves up the cart is 60" long and 15" inches deep. Height could be customized to the sewer. There is a well on top of the cart for the sewing machine to sit in, although that might not work for today's machines. There are outlet connections so your machine is always plugged in and ready to go -- just open the cabinet doors and wheel it out -- obviously from before surge protector days. Additionally, the interior of the cabinet houses a shelf to hold a sleeve board and brackets to hold a folding cutting board. The materials list suggests cabinet grade plywood. The entire set is painted white and the magazine photo shows it against the wall in a guest bedroom that has louvered white shutters on the window. The plans are very detailed and thorough. I had always wanted to have them built and am now at a stage of life where I feel I can -- so I will be taking to carpenters soon. I paid 75 cents for these plans originally! They are copyrighted 1976 by Fawcett Publications, Inc. The title of the plans reads: From the September 1976 issue of Woman's Day Compact Sewing Center Cabinet Here is a complete set of step-by-step directions and detailed diagrams for constructing and finishing our compact sewing center. Because they are copyright protected, I wouldn't know how to legally share the plans on a site like this, but I imagine they are still archived at Woman's Day. I suggest a letter from interested parties -- and given the resurgence of sewing, maybe Woman's Day will publish the article again, too.

Please do post pics when you get it made. Maybe a really handy person would be able to look at it and figure most of it out, if the plans aren't available through Woman's Day magazine. Year's ago (almost 40 in fact) I sent off for a cross stitch picture of the "20 Mule Team Borax" wagon. Paid $1.00 for it along with the box top from the borax. Well, a few years ago, I "found" it (really, I knew exactly where it was and was planning on doing it someday) but my Mom took it home with her and did the piece for me. It turned out so beautiful!!! We took it and had it professionally framed (a real luxury for us) and hung it in our family room with a note on the back explaining the story. Hope it will mean something to one of our kids someday. Wow, this has nothing to do with sewing, but since you mentioned old plans, I couldn't resist. Terri

DH was supposed to build it for me, but of course, it never got done. I probably tossed them during a stash purge during some move or other through the years. Date: 1/15/12 8:14 AM I worked in publishing years ago and it's very common to allow what is called "a permission to reproduce"for copyrighted content when it's for non-commercial purposes (e.g. you're not selling the plans) or as you point out they may opt to a new article on this given the resurgence fo sewing. I've been looking to have it built for almost 40 years. I even wrote Woman's Day but they said they didn't have any Please send me a private message if you still have the plans.
