******Please, please, please. If you use these terms in a post to suggest searching them, please put the space in between the words in your suggestion. For instance, if you need help with sewing chiffon, please search these two words with no space between them, chiffon thread. Or, please search these words (chiffon thread) with no space between them. This will help keep the searches narrowed as time goes on. Or, just link this thread without using the search term. Thank you.

List of Future Search Terms (search messages, leave poster name blank)

berninanew830thread
bindingknitthread
biasbindingwoventhread

crotchcurvethread
dartthread
hemthread
interfacingthread

needlethread

pantsthread

poorpiglingthread

sergerstitchingthread (for stitching and unstitching, including ripping out)
sergertensionthread
sewingmachinetensionthread
sewingspaceorganizationthread (including lighting)
shirtconstructionthread (cuffs, plackets, collars, collar stands, etc.)
stabilizergelatinthread

zipperthread

When a member posts with a question or a pictured fit problem that is very similar to one that has been worked through before I will sometimes search through and bump threads that can be helpful for them. Each time, there is a thank you from other members who appreciate the 'bump'. Since topic titling varies so much and since there are times when another topic is so thoroughly addressed within a title, I've decided to code my post when I bump so it will be easier to find those bumps and re-bump them later.

Anyone else want to join in? The plan would be to keep it very simple. If you post on here that you have added a 'Future Search Term', I'll keep an eye on the thread and edit this post to include an alphabetical listing of the 'Future Search Terms' that have been used.

I had in mind that it would be very, very basic. So, it will still require some filtering of topics once the search term is entered, but it should make it easier to get to that family of topics more quickly.

I'd like to stay with the basic format of a single simple word, no space, and then, the word thread. So perhaps, needlethread, interfacingthread, elasticthread, etc. If the keyword is included somewhere on the thread, it eliminates the need to remember an exact phrase or title or to remember the name of the member posting or responding. Anything with the keyword can be searched just with the keyword and the message circle clicked on.

10/14/13 Something new.......inspired by the members. List first, then explanation, then original unrelated post on this date.

bias
titles (for isolated search) or messages (for broader search)
all forums
stirwatersblue

...............................
Some members have interests that bring focus to particular topics. So look here for a new twist on this thread. Same thing, use the Search Board function in the Message Boards. Won't be doing any 'earmarking' with made up 'search terms'. But, will be highlighting pockets of informational threads started by individual members that fall within the scope of the individual search terms. The big difference here is actually in filling in the name of the poster and NOT leaving that line blank.

.................................................
..................................................
Marec, yes, if someone wants to join in and key a bumped thread that they know will be a long time classic and that will be helpful to a range of members to provide a quicker more isolated search, that is what I had in mind. In order for this to work, the search terms need to be very simplistic and it is key that there are no spaces to avoid the problem that TessKwiltz is concerned about.

I'm not planning on going all over the board with this, just sticking to the threads that I focus on, and, of course, invite others to do the same.

I just tested this and it works to bring up this thread. So, in the future, if someone bumps a thread and adds in one of the terms you have listed, we will start to build a better search? Am I understanding this?

Not trying to be a spoilsport, my DH says I always see the negative side...

But should someone ever want to search for discussions about "thread" as in the stuff we sew with, they are now going to get a hit on all these topics...

Sorry!

Tesskwiltz,

Running the words together with no spaces between them circumvents that problem.

Have you all seen this great body of work put together by cabinbaby?

I just added the search term pantsthread to it so it will be super easy to pull up in the future.

Thank you so much for your tips on this. That search engine has always given me trouble. I find it hard to locate my own threads.
AT least now I know how you found all my old Panty Review stories to link us to..
I will have to give this a try tomorrow.. Play around with it a bit. If I can know that I can find the Juki threads for instance. I won't have to keep them all bookmarked as I do now.

Someone here once suggested using Google's search engine to find stuff here. For example to search for chiffon, in Google's search bar put:

chiffon site:patternreview.com

Here are the results.
search for chiffon on pattern review

poorpigling,

I found you Old Panty Review stories the old fashioned (and time consuming) way. If I key in a special search term, then it will isolate your stories from every single post that mentions your name, poorpigling. And, there are at least a thousand of those.

I'll find the stories I found before and add the
Future search term: poorpiglingthread
then, we'll be able to pull them up quicker.
............................................................
And, again, folks, if you make the suggestion to anyone to try this, please either link them to this thread; or. please word your suggestion like this:

Search these words with no spaces between them
poorpigling thread

We'll want to keep the future search terms out of any extraneous posts to maintain the streamlined aspect.
...................................................................

Okay, there are some poorpigling stories marked with the
future search term: poorpiglingthread
----------------------------------------------

frame, thank you, I've done that myself and it is sure handy as you can use more qualifiers. I'm just trying to isolate some of the threads that are repeatedly (or should be) referenced as they are such great resources. Try searching chiffon in messages through the typical PR search (no names). Then try search chiffonthread where I have tried to isolate out some posts that have been very helpful. Helps a lot when trying to find Lena Merrin's famous gelatin tip!
