I've been a garment sewer for almost 40 years. I took my first quilting class about 1 1/2 years ago and have made 2 quilts in addition to my class quilt. I'd like to purchase a comprehensive book for quilting, much like the Reader's Digest Complete guide to Sewing for garment sewers. Any recommendations?

Robbie fanning wrote a really wonderful book in I think the 1980's.

there is also a skinny but terrific book written by laurie Swim from Nova Scotia. that's the book that got me going. It's a skinny book but it teachers a huge amount.

Here are some that are in my own wishlist on Amazon.

Quilter's Complete Guide -- Marianne Fons and Liz Porter

Better Homes and Gardens Complete Guide to Quilting

Quilter's Ultimate Visual Guide from A to Z Ellen Pahl

Quilter's Academy Vol 1 Freshman Year - Harriet Hargrave

That may get you started! I really want the Harriet Hargrave series. While they are different volumes, and lessons, I think they could be bound in a spiral or two.

Otherwise, right now, I have started with Nancy Zieman's Quilting with Confidence. Not a huge book, but it does cover everything pretty well.

I second Fons and Porter - Quilter's Complete Guide. It's my go-to book.

Just read this, and decided to put my 2 cents in---I got Freshman Year by Harriet Hargrave and LOVE IT!!! I have done the first project, and now on to the first full quilt project. I have quilted before, but mostly an apparel and misc sewer. I feel like I am getting an excellent start with the freshman book. My fantasy goal is to finish this book this year. Love adding and subtracting from my
Amazon cart several times a week--excellent pasttime as long as you don't push the final button!
