Will we be working with a sewing pattern or with a pair of pants we have sewn or bought?

Hi Dianne,
I will cover both. The lessons show how to alter your current garments, but then I show how to fix the same problem on a pattern. Plus you post pictures of your muslin or current problems with fitting in your RTW pants.
Hope you join us :)

Subject: what level Date: 2/1/12 8:35 PM

Is this class for beginners, or more advanced students? I am asking because over the years I was tweaking my TNT pattern to create a perfect pant sloper. I am very close, but not completely there. So, understandably, I am not interested in basic theory how to adjust a pant pattern, but just want to remove few remaining wrinkles,. My special interest is how to alter for a asymmetrical body.
Another question: You mentioned the six alterations that will be covered in this class. What about others alterations? I sure don't have bow legs, for example, my legs go in opposite direction -meet close at the knees.

Subject: sloper Date: 2/2/12 8:51 AM

Hey Angela,

You keep offering these classes prior to me finishing the prior project- I have so many UFO's. Need to quit my job (LOL).

1. A sloper for khaki pants that is almost done but not quite. After completion I will make style changes (lower waist, etc).

2. A pair of jeans that I made that I think still need tweaking. Made them in non-stretch denim, but after it is perfect, want to make them in stretch denim. The pattern looks so weird after I finished my alterations. is that normal? I feel that I threw it way off grain.

3. Do you have a jeans pattern that you love and would recommend or should I just stick with the above one? How about if I post a pic of them to pleats boards today(or another) for you to look at? I want to decide this prior to class.

Thanks so much -
Deb

Thanks for your question - The six alterations are the main alterations needed so those are the base for the class. The class is really designed for anylevel of sewing, it is just mastering the fitting techniques. Knowing what alterations is needed to fix each wrinkle or pull.
Keep in mind that in this class I allow you to post pictures of your muslin for personal fitting advice and solutions. So this might help with what you are working on.

Subject: time zone differencies Date: 2/2/12 8:18 PM

Thanks for your reply. One more question: Will you be answering questions from students living outside the USA with 12 hours time difference, who can only post questions on the board after 6 o'clock in the evening (6 in the morning local time)?
Otherwise I would get just one answer a day, sure not enough to get a proper fit

Actually, I get an email with every questions posted and I try to answer within 2 hours - except from 9pm - 6am EST here - so I think 9pm is about noon in your area. So I can answer your questions for your in the morning. I stay pretty active on the board, I know what it's like to get something finished when you have time to sew:)
Let me know if you have any other questions.

Subject: Flat Pattern measurements Date: 2/3/12 3:19 PM

Angela, I am excited about your patterns! Will we be able to use the pattern for this class? Also are you going to talk about flat pattern measurements in order to get the perfect fit in this class?

Thanks

Hi Angela, I'm very interested in taking your pants fitting class, but I'm in the same situation as Creative1. That is, I have one TNT pants pattern (self drafted, flat front, fairly slim fit, dress pants) that I've used for almost all the pants I've sewn over the past few years. The pants fit well but still have a couple of minor problems with a little excess fabric under the seat.

Would I be able to post photos of my TNT pant (in regular black RPL pants fabric) on the board during the first week for your comments and then continue to tweak them and post followup photos on each of the following sessions? Or would you prefer it if I sewed my TNT pants pattern in unbleached cotton muslin fabric? If so, I could sew a quick pair beforehand.

By the way, I have already signed up for Sarah Veblen's bodice/sleeve fitting class, the schedule for which completely overlaps with this class (although the chats are on different days of the week). I think I can handle both classes at the same time (I'm retired, sew every day and need only minor help in the bodice/sleeve class, too).

Thank you for your help.
