So... I ran out of white chalk in my Clover Chaco Liner this morning, and it's a 35 minute drive to the nearest store to buy a refill. Plus, I feel the chalk refills are priced like ink refills for your printer - way too expensive for the amount you get!

So, in desperation, I pulled out the baby powder (cheap off-brand) and refilled my Chaco Liner with it. I can't believe it, it actually works great! I've tested it on black cotton, dark green silk, brown wool, blue tencel, black rayon/ lycra knit, denim (the jeans I'm wearing, ha, ha), linen, silk charmeuse, and a poly woven. The marks stay on well enough - it doesn't just come off by shaking the fabric. Ironing over the baby powder doesn't remove it, but brushing it with my hand, or gently rubbing the marks with the same fabric removes the marks completely, even after ironing over it.

The baby powder is providing a nice smooth even line with no skipping or clogging issues - so far. Probably because baby powder is pretty fine. Anyway, I'm thrilled! I can now get back to my project (silk charmeuse pillowcases for an anniversary gift) and I don't have to buy any more chalk refills... ever. Well, at least not white anyway.

Just thought I'd share...

Hmm...what a great idea. I was interested in the Chaco's, but not keen on cost of refilling, so I've passed on them. I will have to rethink this now. : )

Thanks kkkkaty and quathy for your suggestion to put this in the TIPS section - I forgot about that. I think I'll test the baby powder out for a few weeks to see if there are any 'hidden problems' before posting it there.
