I thought it would be easy to find a nice lining fabric such as the type you find in ready to wear stretch woven dresses. Not so. I have been looking all afternoon and have not found a source. Have any of you used this type of lining and can you tell me where to purchase it?

Thanks!

I made a jacket out of stretch corduroy and used a woven stretch lining. I found it in the lining section at my local fabric store Fabric Depot, Portland OR. The do sell online, so you might call them. When I was in NY last September I bought some stretch woven silk dress fabric, thinking it would make a nice lining.

Unfortunately it's almost impossible to find stretch rayon lining but it is easy to find stretch silks. Mood has a good selection of them. I steer clear of polyesters because I find them uncomfortable.

Gorgeous Fabrics has a selection of stretch linings. The first ones are actually a jersey, but according to her, they work well for linings.
Have you tried using a silk or cotton on the bias? I have a silk habotai that has a nice stretch on the bias, but the organza I have doesn't.

Thank you all for your suggestions. I have checked both Mood and Gorgeous Fabrics, but did not find the one I was looking for. I will give Fabric Depot in Portland a call. It should be pretty easy since it's an ivory or winter white that I'm looking for. I would even settle for white!
I did purchase a knit lining from Joann here locally, but I really hate to use it for this dress.

I have altered countless RTW dresses for clients with a stretch woven lining~ sometimes Poly/with 1% lycra, and sometimes rayon/lycra. They are so nice, I can't believe it's almost impossible to find on-line!

A blouse-weight stretch cotton sateen might work nicely in a stretch woven dress.

Denver Fabrics

I'd want to make sure it was light enough (so maybe you'd need a swatch first), but sateen will wear well, breathe and have the stretch that you need. Otherwise, I'd go with a silk w/ lycra.

It is strange to not be able to find something that you see everywhere in RTW!
