I am planning on making Kwik Sew 3732 K3732

I am confused as to which fabric to choose from. This will be my first time making a jacket. And I don't want to spend a whole lot of money for the first product. I am hoping to be able to make this pattern several times. So, my first one will be more of a "trial" run. Having said that, I am taking a sewing class and am going to use this as one of my projects. So, I will have plenty of help with my sewing teacher.

Thank youj!

If it were me, I'd start with inexpensive lightweight cotton denim - that would be the fabric with the best combination of low price and appeal. If you like corduroy (I don't, much) that could be another choice.

If you don't like denim, you could look for some medium-weight linen at a good price. I would definitely avoid synthetics, though; they're hard to work.

I think I'd go for a pretty linen or linen type fabric for that jacket. Either that, or a cool gabardine. Look for sales!!

That is adorable! That could be made out of sooo many things.. I agree.. check out the sales and grab something on a great clearance sale or remnant sale or something.. velvet, corduroy, linen, cotton duck, denim, wool. Good luck, looks like fun, show us pics along the way!

If what you're saying is you are having difficulty trying to decide which fabric to use as a muslin, I'll say that I would make it out of a light twill. Depending on the weight, it might have a little drape, like the linen, and it will be firm, like the denim. In other words, it's a middle-of-the-road type of fabric that you can "translate" to others when it comes time to make a finished garment.

Cotton or blend suiting is also a good choice, and there are many prints and solids to choose from.
