Date: 2/29/12 9:02 PM We just moved to PA, and I happened into Fabric Mart today. Oh my heavens. The store has a very large selection of beautiful fabric (knits, polys, cotton/lycra, wool . .. ) on bolts at 1.99 a yard. The sale is on until March 9th, I think.
Fabric Mart is a big internet store I understand, and they also sell wholesale to New York stores. The clerk told me that every so often the owner just gets tired of some of the fabric, or is getting so much more in, that he runs these sales. I walked into my house with a bag I could barely lift, full of beautiful fabrics, and when my DH kind of sighed, I laughed and said I spent a total of forty dollars.
The clerk told me the sale is only in the store, not on the internet. Sinking Springs is near Reading, and a bit north west of Phil. Definitely worth a trip if you are in driving distance at all.
I'll review it after I go a few more times. |

Date: 3/1/12 1:02 PM I have to confess that I went back a second time. We just moved to Bethlehem, and I need drapes on many of the windows. They don't carry much home dec fabric, but I got some lovely aqua 60 inch wide cotton/rayon blend that looks like silk--12 yards for 24 dollars. And then some wine-colored heavy, silk-like poly--also 60 inches wide, as well (12 yards for 24 dollars). I'm so happy! With my asthma I need drapery fabric I can easily take down and wash, and now I have it!
I am so glad I found this store because there is nothing in Bethlehem but Jo-Ann's. |

Are you trying to get me in trouble with DH??
I'm in NOVA. I Google mapped the route and it looks more like 3 hours to Sinking Spring.------ I'm finally a blogger!

Date: 3/1/12 2:34 PM FM in person is better than Fm by mail. I have been buying from them for over 20 years. TG when I lived in Allentown I didn't know it was there! There used to be a home dec store in Allentown, near Cedar Crest if I am not mistaken. That was long ago....My DD was born in Bethlehem! |

Since I have relatives living in the Lehigh Valley, I know that that home dec store still exists. The prices are higher than Fabric Mart, of course, though they usually have 2-3 large clearance tables with very low prices. Here's info from the business card I took:
Fabrics by Allan
4713 Tilghman Street (in a smaller strip mall across the street from the big mall)
Allentown, PA 18104
Open Seven Days
Richard Bass, owner
Phone (610) 530-7650
Fax (610) 530-7675
They also do upholstery and/or custom cushion covers at slightly below market rates. My sister had them make a 48" long window bench seat with 2" thick foam cushion, covered with 1" dacron batting, inside a cotton slip covering. The finished bench seat was surrounded by same-fabric piping, and closed with a 36" zipper. I believe the price was about $175-195, and they matched the small plaid pattern beautifully all around.
