Date: 3/2/12 2:37 AM I saw a really lovely 8 gore straight skirt today, with a slightly trumpeted hem. I thought it would be reasonably simple to replicate, but am having real trouble finding a pattern to start from.
I have found numerous tutorials for drafting an 8 gore(or however many you like) skirt, but they all result in an a-line or circle style skirt.
The closest I have been able to find that is similar to what I am looking for is Burda 8973. (The shorter version).
Can anyone suggest a pattern, or perhaps tell me how I might alter an existing straight/pegged skirt pattern to achieve a similar look.
Thanks for any help ------ Wendy

Date: 3/2/12 3:17 AM Wendy, these style skirts are my favourite, not to mention easy to sew.
Burda 8213 might be the style you are looking for.
It is an OOP pattern.

I have two copies of this pattern if you are interested?

Date: 3/2/12 12:34 PM I have this Silhouette Pattern 2850 on my to sew list. Can't tell the exact shape when the model isn't swinging her hips but you can just select the finished size that would match how much trumpeting you like. |

Date: 3/2/12 2:52 PM I knew I'd seen a tutorial out there somewhere:
Gored trumpet skirt tutorial by Petit Main Sauvage
The directions are for a ten-gore skirt, but I think if you just divide by eight wherever she divides by ten, you will come out all right. Then, of course, only cut eight gores.
She sewed up this skirt from her drafting method.
I can't vouch for this tutorial, since I haven't tried it, but based on my experience with the pattern pieces for a 6-gore trumpet skirt, it looks reasonable. The trumpet skirt pattern I use (Simplicity 5914) also has front and back pieces the same. I find this didn't quite work for me, but that it was easy to tweak (in a little here, out a little there) after basting the pieces together, using 5/8 in seam allowances.
ETA: Of course, when you draft the pattern you can add as much or as little trumpeting as you like, where you like. You don't have to add as much flare as the blogger does. She points out, also, that straight vs. curved flare lines will give you different looks. -- Edited on 3/2/12 2:56 PM -- ------ marjoriekh |

Date: 3/2/12 3:29 PM Kwik Sew has a couple This is one. They are very simple to draft and I am sure there are instructions quite easily obtained. You can add godets or increase/decrease the flare, shape the flare to begin wherever you want it. For example, on my ballroom gowns I want the flare to always start around the hip so you don't get a full leg and undies flash when I spin, so I just slim down the top part of the "trumpet" to where I want it. Have fun! ------ http://bgballroom.wordpress.com to follow the progress on my next ballgown. |

called the Bosa Nova skirt. ------ My grandmother taught me to sew when I was 10, and I've been sewing ever since. |

Date: 3/3/12 12:16 PM Try Style Arc, Janet's Skirt- it is more of a Chanel straight style 8 gore. You may need to make adjustments but lines are nice and you can add the godets if you wish |
