I'm working on Burda 8077 View A. I have large upper arms and need a bit of sleeve. Unfortunately, cap sleeves are not terribly flattering. I want to lengthen the sleeve about 5 inches. Is there a trick to this? Should I just imagine a "shortening/lengthening" line about an inch from the hem line? Slice across, lower and fill in the five inches I need? Is a cap sleeve cut any different than a regular sleeve, just shorter?

Does your sleeve have a pronounced curve at the hem?

Many cap sleeves do, whereas if you lengthen it by 5 inches you will probably want a much straighter line across the hemline. Do you have a basic short sleeve pattern in your stash you can use as a reference?

ETA: Looking at the pattern photo (is this it?), those cap sleeves don't look so curved, but kind of snug. You may want to add some width to the sleeve as well as lengthen. A quick muslin of the sleeve alone would probably tell you.

Thank you so much. That is the pattern and you are right the sleeve is straight and tight. I already had to give it more width. I hadn't even thought using one of my well fitting short sleeves to use as a reference. My brain cells just don't always work hand in hand Thanks again.
