I bought 4 yards of denim recently to make jeans, and boy do I regret this purchase. The fabric is incredibly stiff. I washed it once, but it is still very stiff.

Does anyone have any suggestions for softening up this fabric?

Washing with an enzyme might work - I don't know how easy it is to buy the ones that are used for commercial fabric production, but it may be worth a shot. Otherwise, you could scrub with pumice stones, but that would be a lot of work :)

Use a can or two of coke with your wash. Here's the link to a previous PR thread on this topic.

Thanks very much for your replies. I read the postings on the link, and I will use the same principle of the coke, by useing vinegar. I have that readily on hand. I dont generally have soda on hand at home. Thanks again.
