Date: 3/19/12 11:20 AM Disappointing... especially the garment measurements. I can pull the instruction sheet to find notions/interfacing (though I don't think I should have to), but I cannot really unfold the pattern to view hip/bust/length measurements. These sometimes make a difference in which size pattern I choose to purchase. |

Date: 3/19/12 12:43 PM Use the "Contact Us" feature on the website to complain. Tell 'em that this decision makes you unlikely to buy the patterns.
Long ago, I read the autobiography of Jerry Della Femina, a pioneer in advertising. He told a story about when he was working for Seagrams. This was a large company at the time, you'd think a big, impersonal firm, but the author said that five complaints--just five--from unhappy customers constituted a HUGE groundswell of opinion, because the five who took the time to write represented a large number who did not take the time write but were equally unhappy and likely to switch to a different brand.
The company took the letters seriously. It's worth a shot for you and others who are unhappy with the McCall's decision to let them know. |

Date: 3/19/12 2:21 PM That's crazy!!! Why I wonder would they stop haivng it on the envelope. I'll go check this out (today) and voice my comment if this is the case! I think everyone should write in and see if we can make an impact. (I think I am feeling very rebelious today. :) ------ Laurie Lou |

Date: 3/19/12 3:57 PM Why would they mess with as good thing? Did they think we would not notice it was missing. I hope they change it back! -- Edited on 3/19/12 10:39 PM -- ------ sewcool21@blogspot.com |

Date: 3/19/12 4:10 PM I think they've gone on a minimalism spree of late. I ordered the catalog and it is very spare of extra detail compared to earlier catalogs. |

Date: 3/19/12 4:12 PM I actually sent them a note on the Contact Form from their website before I posted here on PR. I don't understand why they would change -- I don't imagine it costs more to print the info on the envelope than inside the pattern. |

Date: 3/19/12 4:35 PM I have been known to stand at a pattern drawers, take the pattern out of the drawer, take out the instructions and very carefully unfold part of a pattern to see something on it. Just only what I really need to see on it though and carefully. I have never had an issue in a store with any empolyee's there when doing that at all. But like anything you do anyplace, it might sometimes be in how you do something too. I do it, quickly, carefully and for sure like I know what I am doing and just respectful to rather fragile tissue paper about it, and I make sure it all gets back in the envelope just like it should afterwards. Also I would not spread it all out, on some pattern book tables if a lot of people there, and I was going to be taking up their room or getting in their way at all.
But since the pattern counters and drawers are all pretty much unmanned nowadays, and it's pretty much self service, (and since patterns are often even $16 up to $30 each now, especially if not on sale at all) I think as long as you don't "abuse the system" and are careful, it's O.K. and the "pattern police" are probably not going to tag you over it most times. I've seen other people do that too, I know I'm not the only one at all! |

Date: 3/19/12 5:59 PM Yes I noticed them doing this for a year or so now, McCalls and Vogue, haven't bought Butterick in a while so I spose too...Very VERY annoying. In past I would check finished measurements to determine what type of fabric, if it may need some stretch if little ease etc. And if bust size a super amount of ease or bigger than I want, I would need a 10 instead of 12 and often patterns are 6 8 10 then 12 14 16 etc.
Simplicity still gives great finished measurements on envelope. ------ .....Behold, a wonder did appear;
Amazement was my bliss....... |

Date: 3/19/12 7:55 PM I truly don't understand the motivation behind the change... it cannot possibly be a cost-save. The back of the envelope has more white space, but it is not functional Quite frustrating. |
