Hello,

I finally have a pattern for a pair of dress trousers that fit (I am so happy!! For those interested, I started with a Burda pattern). They have a contoured waistband and this is where the trouble is.... while the waist is the right length, I can't seem to sew the uninterfaced facing band to the outer, interfaced band and have the facing lay flat and look nice on the inside (the facing seems too long on length and then gets pulls and folds when I tried to stitch in the ditch on the outside of the pant to sew it down).

I was thinking that maybe if I interfaced the facing too that may help or I could sew at 6-7/8" instead of 5/8" when joining the facing pieces together as this would shorten it? I'm open to trying any other good tips or tricks to make the facing fit and lay flat.

Thanks you for your help.

I've made tons of pants with contour waistbands so might be able to help.

I have added interfacing to both WB and facing. I also glue-baste (to death with a washable glue stick) the facing to the WB. I do this while placing the pants over my pressing ham to maintain the shape. When the glue dries everything should be in place and ready to ditch-stitch.

Thanks for the tip Barb. I will try using a glue stick to stick everything in place before I sew.

I interface the facing with a light interfacing unless it's a heavier fabric. The second thing I do is use a smaller sas, usually 3/8". You can also use a light weight double sided fusible tape to keep it from scooting ahead and causing those wrinkles. I do all of the above. Make sure that you line up the seams first. You can also hand baste to keep it in place.
