Date: 3/22/12 2:33 AM I am trawling the 'net for silk fabric suppliers, especially after having no luck locally (Adelaide,South Australia).
I'm having my MOG dress made by a dressmaker, to avoid stress, and I'm looking for coordinating sheer (silk chiffon) and either silk charmeuse or silk crepe de chine. I have found on-line stores here in Australia, but their prices are sky high (around Au$40/metre).
I would be grateful for some pointers for sites in the USA. My colour choice is a violet blue (light to mid range) as the wedding in October is being held in Queensland.
So far I have tried NY Fashion Fabrics-some success, but I would like some more option.
TIA

Date: 3/23/12 6:46 AM Check out Emma One Sock, a long-time sponsor of this site. She has a separate link for sheers, and though she's not inexpensive, the fabrics are reasonably priced, there's great customer service, and having such a well-edited selection is very helpful for me (read: not a huge number of fabrics available, but choice). She often posts fabrics that will coordinate, and will respond quickly if you ask her for a specific suggestion. |

Date: 3/23/12 7:15 AM Aless - I would still recommend trying the Fabric Collection when you visit Qld. I have a sample of silk chiffon to coordinate with some other silk at $30 pm. Not cheap, but still once postage is taken into account not too bad. They can help coordinate colours too.
All the best on your search - it is not easy to get these fabrcis to coordinate at a reasonable cost.

Date: 3/23/12 7:37 AM My favorite for silks is Sarah Veblen. She has swatches available for 8 or so different types of silk and they can be ordered in many, many colors. www.sarahveblen.com. I've ordered from her for special occasion dresses and been delighted. It's especially nice to be able to order silk fabric for the dress and a matching silk for the lining.

Date: 3/23/12 10:47 AM I've found my cheapest silks at Fabric Mart Fabrics and Fashion Fabrics Club. They have a sale every so often that drops the price for charmeuse down to around $10 or $12/yard. Not sure how much shipping would be for you though.
If you are the more adventurous type Dharma Trading has very reasonably priced silks that you could dye yourself. ------ -- Anne
