I received a package of this today: Fabulous floral

I'm planning a very special dress and just hope I don't mess it up. I will be fitting the muslin this weekend.

Very pretty. What pattern are you using?

Vogue 8409. I plan to underline the fabric to make it more substantial and suitable for the pattern.

Your voile print is beautiful. What is making you uneasy about this project or the process? Anything in particular?

I love the idea of the softly painted flowers on the semi sheer. The bodice of your dress with the soft releasing tucks is a natural partner.

I'm taking the Sewing Sheers online class with Sarah Veblen and learning a lot about these kinds of fabrics. She suggests trying different color fabrics underneath to see the affects. Changing the underlining/lining color can completely transform the fashion fabric's appearance. It's really fun to experiment- try things that are not obvious choices, you might be pleasantly surprised.

I know you want to underline and makes sense with your fitted dress. Would you consider leaving the sleeves sheer? Or sheer to the cuff if you're making that view?

I'm just not sure I'm up to the challenge of getting the fit just right and making the whole thing look professional I don't want to show up at this event looking like a home ec project. Plus, it's beautiful and delicate fabric, so I want to be careful with it.

I'm actually not doing the sleeves at all. I plan to underline it with a bleached muslin. The white really helps the colors come out. Plus, it adds some mich needed structure to the fabric. Then I'll line it wit ivory Bembg so it glides over lumps and bumps and doesn't stick to my spanx. ;)

About the home ec project look- I hear ya.

Fit- can be a challenge no matter what. Do you have a sewing buddy who can look in and advise how you're progressing with the slim, sleek lines of the dress? If not, take photos of your muslin and post them on PR. I'd keep going with that through completion of your garment. You'll get good help here.

Construction- you've thought it through and sounds like you know what you're doing. Plus there's Spanx. I've yet to try that! When you wear your dress, people will be drawn to the lovely, colorful fabric and not be snooping to investigate your sewing technique. Last weekend I went shopping and tried on RTW. Not perfect by any means.

Good sewing and I'm eager to see how the process works for you. I'm about to start a dress that I need for a wedding in 3 weeks. Muslin time for me too.

Thanks! Good luck to you as well. Sounds like we're both in a bit of a time crunch. I'm going to work on my muslin today and I may take yur advice about posting pics here. There are a few things I know need to be fixed first.
